1983 Diamond Back Harry Leary Turbo

Not OEM, so I can hammer without a care in the world.

DB Harry Leary Turbo frame / forks.
Frame: Ser number: 3B0*** baseball symbol.  Top tube 18.6", rear dropout thickness 1/16".
Had clear smoke residue on the frame when I bought it.  Backs up previous owner's story.
Forks: DB, baseball symbol 'Koizumi JAPAN' sticker on fork tube. serial number: baseball symbol 2FT inside left fork dropout.
OS Harry Leary decals.
Araya 7X hoops, suzue hubs (OEM Silver Streak),re-issue Comp III tyres.
Elina Lightning bolt seat '83, Polished Suntour seat clamp, Tioga seat pole.
Polished Nitto MX2 Stem,  2009 retro HARO Freestyler bars, Tange LEVIN headset,  AME round grips.
Shimano DX levers, Tourney calipers, Shimano cables and brake pads.
Repro HLT pad set.
Sugino polished Diamondback cranks, Shimano DX pedals, KMC chain.
Feels super fast & angles are excellent for an old-schooler.

LOVE the Turbos!  How in the world is the smoke finish redone?  Worth the time and money if possible to return to Turbo.

Just this noob opinion.

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Harry Leary Turbo

I have heard it takes somthing like 9 coats to get it down right, then you have to bake it, because it was an enamel coating!  If I go the Turbo route, I will have to get some darn good advice..

Dave.

Re: 1983 Diamond Back Harry Leary Turbo

leave it as is and when Turbo parts come up for sale just replace them.

This is what I'm doing but Turbo stamped items don't come up very often

Rode this yesterday at the Sydney old school ride, OZBMX.com.au.  It was a top day!

Took it out again after almost 2 years in hibernation.  OZBMX old school Easter ride in Sydney.  Excellent weather, top blokes.

Bob Sepping: 1943 – 14th October, 2015. To the legend behind Universe Cycles, Parramatta: I thank you for your patience for all the bicycle questions I asked you in the 30 odd years knowing you, and for the stories you shared with me from your past. Take care and rest in peace.. P.S around 1/2 of my collection passed through your stores, mate.
