Yeah if you don’t mind Gorilla. I’d like to see more pictures.  LM, I thought I read that somewhere about the  US made frames. Mine is an fs stamped one as well. Mine is stamped 10/85. So in reality it was made in October of 85 but could’ve sat around for a couple of months before being assembled? Then at that point whatever was available or whatever the buyer/bike shop wanted was used to build it? If that’s the case should I use Nippons front and back, 901’s front and back or do a combination like in the catalog? Also what would be period correct for the levers. I see Gorilla has tech 7’s. I was looking for 5’s and 6’s. I understand it’s not going to be 100% all original so it really doesn’t matter as far as originality but I would like to build it to as close as possible to what it would’ve been like new. Don’t want parts that would’ve been too late in the year or from different years completely. Lastly, would a 44 tooth chainring work on this bike. (GT) it’s a sr stamped one. I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find a 43 tooth one.

Mine's an 11/85.  There are a few late 85 frames in DG colors most of them are 3/86.   Gorillas bike was most certainly spec'd out originally in 87 as those are all 87 PFT parts on it.

Here’s my 86 with 3 holes and a SN that starts with 5L05 and baseball stamp.  It’s mainly original and got it from a friend I grew up with.  New cables, brake pads and chain.

Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -

I just picked up an 85 world tour f/f the fork is not correct it’s an early 90’s Gt the serial begins with 5J which if I’m correct means it was built on October 1985 my question is would that be considered an 86 model since its late in the year?

The serial is in the inner dropout with 3 holes.

Baseball stamp?  Most likely still an 85.  Got pics?

Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -

Does it have any decals on it or other components?

Nope it was stripped of all original decals it had some mid 90’s Gt decals but those are gone as I’m cleaning it up. It was in pretty rough shape but according to the guy I got it from he said he got it from the original owner back in the early 90s and it had half of the 86 world tour decal on one side(so not sure if the original owner added the 86 style WT decals or because it was a late build 85 it got the 86 style WT decals from the factory).

The guy I purchased it from was a race guy and didn’t care for flatland but he got the bike because his race bike was stolen and got it on a trade from the original owner and just rode the performer eventually he said he added some mid 90’s big Gt decals then removed all the parts and just stuck the frame in his garage when he stopped riding.

Sorry for the long reply but Im basically trying to find out if some late 85s got the 86 style decals?

Re: - OFFICIAL: 1986 GT Performer Thread -

not sure if this has been asked or covered on here. I didn't see it as I scrolled thru the 32 pages..

I have a DS6 frame set with what appears to be original maui blue and 87' decals. I was told that they made theses bikes in 86' but released them in 87'. can anyone confirm this..

Similar to what I heard about late 85’s my late year 85 came with 86 decals It seems like some of the later year models might have been released as following year models.

I hope someone else can chime in on this. from what I've read 87' was a weird year for these bikes
