1977 Raleigh Rampar

Built By Race Inc.

$150 Attic Find.

A knowledgable member on the site educated me as to the history of this frame. Built in 79 for Laguna by Race Inc. Complete survivor. Needed TLC. Rebuilt it. Sun faded on the right side. Very cool IMO. Starting phase 2 of resto now - NOS Large Flange Blue Suzue Hubs. Will add nice dark anno Blue crank arms, new blue seat, new blue peds. Repainted forks, bars and seatpost a cool blue. Keeping frame orig cause you cant cover the history of the faded orig finish.

Re: 1977 Raleigh Rampar

sweeet ride!  i'm really into survivor frames, glad to see you're keeping it original...it can only be that way once, and once/if it's re-surfaced, it'll never have the character, and'll never be the same. nice score!

I assume this has a laguna serial number since it had Race Inc decals. What is the Laguna serial pattern? That Bill dude made a lot of frames!: Race, FMF, SE, Laguna, Rampar, etc.

If you look at the down tube and the gusset at the bottom bracket, you'll see it is different from Race Inc RA-7's curved down tube.  The down tube is straight on this one, and the gusset is a smaller triangle.  Also, the seat stays are at an angle from the top tube - which is different from the Race Inc Jr (RA-8), where the top tube and seat stays are almost in line with each other.  This is definitely a Laguna, made by Bill Bastian / Race Inc - which explains the decals.  A very nice piece of BMX aluminum frame history.
