1997 Torker Kickback
Mid School re-imagined
I'm addicted to DTT's, and I love bikes with curved tubing. Naturally, this frame is a holy grail to me. Torker made several frames with curved DTT's, but the Kickback was the top-of-the-line (full 4130). Originally outfitted with front v-brakes, rear u-brakes, Sun Rhyno-Lite wheels, Kevlar seat, SST Oryg, etc--it was very well outfitted for the time (minus the 1 piece crank). That also meant it weighed as much as most MS freestyle bikes--which is to say A LOT. There are a few other Kickbacks on here that are still stock--so that can give you an idea of what it looked like when I got it.
To my knowledge, these were NOT sold in the USA--and if they were, it was a very, very rare thing. Mine--as most--originates in Austrailia. In fact, I paid significantly more to have the bike shipped to me...than I paid for the complete bike. Given the surface rust on most of the pieces--and the weight--I decided to "lighten" things up by upgrading to NS parts. I had yet to see one of these types of bikes heavily modified in a NS vein, so that was my aim here (I LOVE NS tech!); 28/9 gearing, sealed BB, sealed HS, sealed hubs. It is still a MS frame through and through--the 15" CS doesn't lie. It looks positively weird next to my 13" CS FLATT.
Future plans may included swapping/upgrading the brakes & a potential repaint (provided I can obtain OEM replica decals for less than a small fortune). I LOVE this frame! The only downside is the CS brake bosses (very low clearance) & the lack of Mid BB & Integrated HT, and an integrated tensioner; I would be elated if someone were to re-release this frame with these NS features.
I've entered this in the 2014 Flatland Bike Buildoff. Your vote is most appreciated!
