1982 Tensor BMX Magnum
Early 80s, cheap, looptail BMX by Tensor Cycles of Darlington, Northeast England. The frame was made in West Germany and I've seen the same frames labelled as Kalkhoffs.
I bought this off ebay for nostalgic reasons (and probably paid a little over the odds for it?!) . I had the same bike as my first BMX, although mine was all red. Red padset (reading BMX 2000!), frame, seat (aeroyal copy), tyres and "cobra" grips. This was pretty much all my parents could afford at the time, I still loved it though. That bike went to the local council tip/dump a long time ago, so when I saw this I had to buy it! I wanted to build it the way I would have bitd if i'd had the money to do so? So I stripped and repainted the frame. Then added skyway mags, suntour power stem, shimano SX pedals (couldn't afford DXs) and a lightweight alloy"Aero" crankset. I retained the original Altenburger "brilliant" caliper brakes and gave them a good polish. The frame itself is quite weak, so I also tidied up the welds/added new welds and an extra reinforcing gusset to the rear of the frame. (more pictures to follow). Then I made up some custom decals and called the bike TC (Tensor Cycles) Magnum - in an homage to the PK Ripper, a bike I could only dream of owning at the time!
