1968 Schwinn Stingray

My dads fully restored Stingray

This was my dads bike in his childhood. It sat outside at my aunts house for many many years until he finally brought it home about 10 years ago. The seat and wheels were gone and what was left was trashed from being out in the weather and it had also been spray bombed by the neighbor kid at some point. 10 years ago I wanted to build it in to a lowrider bike and got started but lost interest and it sat in the basement up until the first part of this year(2013). Im a bmx guy at heart and thought a cross bred bmx/beach cruiser would look awesome. So it began...again. I did some trading and ended up with an older Columbia bicycle, it donated its wheels and crank to the project. I didnt have a fork so I bought one on ebay that ended up being for a girls Stingray with a longer tube so I had to make new threads further down the shaft and cut off the excess but it looks super nice on the bike. I then purchased new decals, new Schwinn head tube badge, nos KKT pedals and new 36'' tall sissy bar, banana seat, AME grips, white wall tires including a slick and a new white KMC chain. I had the handlebar stem from an older Schwinn Thrasher and the bars came from another bmx museum member. I bead blasted the bars and paint matched them to the bike while leaving the center v bar part chrome for a different look. I just took it out for its first ride in over 40 years! Its a head turner! Maybe someday ill put the ape hanger bars back on it...but I doubt it. :)
