1964 Schwinn Buddy

The true origin of BMX!

So, I recently acquired this boys bike and it took me a little while to figure out exactly what it was.

Based on the serial number, it is an August 1964 Schwinn “Buddy” bike, that the original owner converted to BMX duty in the 70’s.
This bike was given to him for Christmas in 1964, and then "given" to me last week, after a leaf blower fell from a hook and thumped me in the head and shattered my prescription glasses.
When I saw the bike I asked him how much? And he told me to take it for nothing since he felt bad and my glasses were ruined.
Anyway, he told me that he actually raced this bike in the mid-70's, and then it had been hanging in his parents barn until I showed up, while buying another bike.
He does not remember what bike the bars and seat came off of, but thought he remembered they were from the same bike. Bike had no grips on it so I put these 80's grips on it for now.
If anyone can tell me where the seat came from I would love to know.
So cool to have found this one!
