1996 S&M DIRTBIKE
1996 DIRTBIKE RESTO
Even though I'd never even ridden an S&M bike, as my
mid-life crisis mid-school BMX obsession began to take hold I began reading more and more about them on here and elsewhere. As I did I slowly came to the realisation that I really, really wanted one. After reading about their superb modern-day geo I started looking at new frames at first and seriously considered a white Hucker frame but ended up coming across some of the awesome Holmes and Dirt Bike builds on here and knew it had to be one of those.
I was waiting for the right score to come along and then this little lot turned up for sale on The Museum for a great price. I already had a set of Castillobars so added those to the build list over the Slam Bars that came with the score and went for a mid-school/new school mash-up parts-wise, with a 40t Hurricane sprocket and a 14t freewheel ... the gearing is perfect for me; fast off the mark and not too bad up the steep hills around the hood.
I kept the survivor DitchForks with the sexy burlesque lady stickers but may swap these out for some XLT PitchForks at a later date.
I had never even ridden an S&M bike before taking it for it's maiden burn ... but once I did I realised what all the fuss is about. It's so unbelievably well-balanced and smooth and solid to ride. A tad heavy, but all in all, pure BMX-rider nirvana. S&M seriously rules. My favourite bike to ride for sure.
Thanks for looking.
