1977 Raleigh Rampar

1977 Raleigh Rampar

USA Rampar by Race Inc.

I've been searching for one of these Rampar frames for awhile but it turned out that I already had one in my frame collection, just assuming it was an early Race Inc. Jr.  Rampar was another company who had a short contract with Race Inc, for this type of aluminum frame during this period (Cycle Pro Foiler/Spoiler, Laguna GT, FMF, Peugeot, Raleigh/Rampar).

One night, when I held the frame into dimn lighting, the less faded area from the old Rampar logo decal was revealed, wow......I couldn't believe it.  Although the frame was not mint, the gold anodize was still excellent. I could work with this.

The diamond/FMF style drop out's, straight downtube, long rear gusset, no serial # are all tell-tale signs of a Rampar.  It looks a bit like a Race Inc "Jr." frame only it's slightly longer, by about one inch.  I once had a blue one of these, B.I.T.D., which actually had the riveted Rampar aluminum front head-badge on it. I remember drilling the rivets off and placing a Race Inc sticker on the front, covering those 2 rivet holes.  Although I've only seen a handful of these aluminum Rampar frames, none had that Rampar head-badge on them...(found primarily on steel Rampar frames).

I'm happy with how this turned out, it's about 99% where I want it to be.
