1998 Mongoose Phase-1 RM Series

Phase 1 RM/Phase 2 RM/MacFearsome Rare Robert MacPherson series frame, got off of local craigslist back in the middle of march, 2009.

I just had to have one, Robert MacPherson and Eric Rupe raced these frames back in 1998. This is the only Phase 1 RM I've ever seen outside of my 1998 mongoose catalog. Unfortunately only the frame, seat, seat post clamp, and possibly the brake lever and headset are original. The cranks and wheels were bent junk and got thrown out. ( kept nice 32h hollow axled DB hubs.) Sold the S&M slam bars, seat post, and stem and almost made my money back. Took her down to bare frame, alot of scratches she's definately getting painted, over all the frame is in good shape. With the decals and most of the original parts gone it's going to be a tough build, I'll have to source or make my own decals and come close to the originals, and most likely use modern parts.(which should be an improvement)I'll keep you posted on the progress. (it's going to be slow with race season open)

Ok, I finally finished her in 10/09.  The frame got stripped, scratches filled and sanded, primered and painted ford dark green metalic. The head badge I had NOS, along with some other NOS mongoose stickers.  The big gold bottom tube MONGOOSE is a high quality rubb-on decal I found on ebay out of England.  Other MacPhearsome decals are rubb-on letters from a hobby store, and embossed Maurice on rear drop outs and brake bridge are painted in gold leaf, and then the entire frame and forks got clear coated.

The entire bike as built wieghs 22.5 lbs (1lb. less than original MacPhearsome bike when it came out).  She's light, fast,  responsive, and handles great.  There's definately no flex in the rear triangle as specified by RM himself. (he had problems with other frames flexing which was the reason for the design of these frames.)

One of the best frames that mongoose has ever put out in my opinion.
