1999 Mongoose Motivator
What motivates you?
This is my September 1999 built Mongoose Motivator. I assembled this bike way back in the year 2000, when I was looking for a fun project.
I sourced all the parts from various bike shops in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Frame from here. Forks from there. Etc etc. Yes folks, actual physical shops! They had them back then. ;-)
Anyway, when I first built it I had a set of black slant spoke rims on it, which looked pretty good to my mind (I've added a couple of photos of how it looked back then). I rode it up and down the driveway maybe twice to make sure everything worked the way it was meant to, and then I put it away....... for 20 years. It sat in several garages in that time, gathering dust. In the last week I figured I'd get it out and clean it up.
Rather than go back to the old tuff copies I decided I'd give it a new set of shoes, which is what you see here.
Although this model was a cheapie (with a hi tensile steel frame rather than crmo), to this day I still think it's possibly the best looking frame to ever wear the mongoose name. Shame it weighs about a ton......
Hope you like it as much as I do.
