1987 Hutch Wind Styler
Purple people eater
Here's my first ever attempt at building a freestyle bike. To this point I've only built race bikes, as that's what I loved as a kid.
This one's an '87 Hutch Wind Styler. I found the frame for sale recently, and set about gathering parts for it. Yes, I know purple and white is a pretty well worn path, but as Homer Simpson once said, I'm not popular enough to be different. Regardless, it's a classic '80's colour combo that i think still looks cool, so no wonder there are plenty purple and white bikes in the museum.
The photos tell most of the parts story, but the notable mentions are a NOS Tioga spider, NOS Takagi one piece crank, NOS grips that I removed from their pretty ratty '80's hang tab packaging for this build, and NOS KKT pedals that were still in their original box when i got them. I've had the Tuf Neck 'Ace' for ages, and decided it could have a home on this bike.
In all I'm pretty pleased with how it came up, but I'll leave it up to you to decide if I've done justice to the freestyle genre.
Big thanks to Undercover on this build, for providing advice and inspiration. Be sure and check out his awesome collection.
Stay well folks, and keep on rollin'.<!--/data/user/0/com.samsung.android.app.notes/files/clipdata/clipdata_bodytext_210317_110340_239.sdocx-->
