1986 Haro Sport

The Magazine Advertisement

In early 1986 I knew I needed a new freestyle bike and was on the lookout.  When I saw the advertisement for this bike sometime in late Winter of 1986 I immediately knew it was the one.  It had the longer ramp geometry I wanted and combined the colors I liked with the chrome that brought class and durability.  The Master ad was killer as well, but I wanted to fly like Wilkerson.  As fast as I could get the cash together I visited the local Haro bike shop and ordered one up.  But mine got the turquoise Peregrine Masters to be like Wilkerson in the magazines.  This shop order was March of 1986.  Originally ordered pink Peregrines, but called back and changed my order a day later.
This is the pure blue, white and chrome version from the magazines.
This build was a donor from a clean survivor but I recently put new re-issue old school Haro bars on it to get it back to the rounded BMX bar look.  Seat re-issue from more than ten years ago, as well as period crank update.  Rotor was not in the original Sport advertisement, but I ran one BITD so have one in there.  Original Nippon dated 0886 in back but 87 in front and Peregrine mags were either scrubbed well with new stickers applied or were NOS.  Tires are at least ten years old.
A bit scratched from use over the years, could be ridden around the block no problem with a big smile.  A good representation of that moment in time!
