2001 GT Vertigo
The Gt Vertigo- this one is a mid school tank.
In 2000, I snapped the seat tube of my 1991 GT Performer while riding at the local skatepark. Still stuck in the 1980's, I decided to go with a name I could trust. So, I bought a vertigo. But, it wasn't the 80's anymore and I wasn't doing frame standers and cherry pickers and I wasn't 185 pounds and 6 foot 5. No, at 35, I was a lean 235 and 6 foot five but now I was riding street and park with young bucks like Mark Potozny and Todd Walkowiak at B Cubed in Moon, PA and in Pittsburgh on Pitt's campus.
The first thing to blow up were the "air bag" tires. You couldn't put more than 65 pounds in them without the bead breaking off the rim; but they needed 80-100 to keep from pinch flatting. Then, the huge drop outs started to crush from grinding curbs; cranks bent, pedal cages broke, chain ring got bend, chain broke, bars folded, seat post bent, rims got way to dinged up from pinch flats. I added We The People Three Piece Cranks, a pair of Primo Moe Bars, Primo Tenderizer Pedals, a Primo Micro Adjust Post, a Threshold Sprocket with a Bash Guard.
Then the rear triangle bent riding park in Pittsburgh. So, I bought a first gen Fit Frame. The only thing that held up after a year of hardcore street and park on the rig was the GT Piston Stem- a damn good stem. Anyway, that bike is long gone and these days I ride a 2009 Subrosa Pandora Ryan Sher signature frame (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/subrosa/74291).
But, here is an exact replica of the one I bought new from Snitgers Bike Shop in Beaver, PA. The chrome on the bars was toast so I put on a pair of Mongoose bars from the late 90's. Also, I had a nice GT Launch Pad and post from the same year so this Vertigo got an upgrade.
