1998 GT Speed Series Cruiser 24

This is the bike I wanted bitd but could only afford the seat (yes, that same seat is actually the one pictured on the bike) So 15 years later, I decided to fulfill the emptiness around it. I recently found and picked up a completely original factory bike minus the stickers (including the dirt, grime and rust stuck on it probably dating back at least in the 90's). As long as the frame looked more than decent I was fine with it because I already had plans on refinishing most if not all the parts anyway. The very next day I took the whole thing apart. About 2 months later I was able to acquire my desired parts from several sources mainly Ebay, Craigslist and the Bmxmuseum. After numerous visits to the chrome/polish shop, a specialty bolt store for misc. hardware, countless hours searching for nos/rare parts, putting everything back together and wiping the same spot over and over, this is the end result..


* My intentions were to keep the theme of the build Era Correct (at the very least the design and feel of each part) and use USA made parts as a preference.


The Breakdown:

Frame: 6061 T6 Easton Aluminum Box Series (pro polished)

Fork: Bombshell Aluminum (pro polished)

Handlebar: GT (stamped) Pro Rise 'Fat Crossbar' Chromoly (fresh chrome)

Grips: GT Wings Grips

Stem: Crupi 'Waves' Piston Style (pro polished & fresh chrome bolts)

Headset: Chris King 1 1/8" Threadless Headset w/ GT (Original) Top Cap

Crank setup: FSA Forged CNC Machined Crank Arms 180mm (pro polished) w/ Bottom Bracket Cups (pro polished),  Spindle, Sealed Ball Bearings (Not Cone shaped cartridge bearings), Hardware (fresh chrome), Profile "Hurricane" Sprocket 41t (polished)

Chain: KMC Z410 & GT Chain Tensioners (anodized silver w/ stainless steel bolts w/shoulder)

Pedals: Crupi Aluminum Pedal Bodies (pro polished) w/ Pro Square Cages (brushed aluminum exterior)

Seat: GT "Racing" Speed Series Team (cordura cloth) Drop Nose

Seatpost: GT (stamped) Layback Chromoly 27.0mm

Seatpost Clamp: GT (Original) Piston Style 31.8mm (pro polished & fresh chrome bolt)

Brake setup: Paul Moto Love Lever Compact (pro polished), Paul Motolite V Brakes (pro polished), Koolstop Thin Line Pads & Nokon Brake Cable (anodized silver)

Wheel setup: Profile 1st Gen Sealed Hubs 36h  (polished), Sun Rhyno Lite Rims (chrome and brushed aluminum walls front & rear), stainless spokes, silver brass nipples & GT Ratchet 18t Freewheel

Tires: GT Wings (24 x 2.10 F & 24 x 1.75 R) & Aluminum Valve Caps
