1995 GT Pro Freestyle Tour
Last gift of Family Friend
About a decade ago my wife's family friend came by our house to drop off a couple incomplete bikes for our 4 boys, 3 of which were about riding age at the time. This was the last time we talked to him, as he passed unexpectedly a few months later. None of my boys needed a 20" at the time, so the bikes sat in storage for a few years until I built a complete bike.
Among the stuff there were Dyno VFR parts as well as the Freestyle frame, fork, and bars, a nice Pro Series sprocket, and a loner Super 7x rim on some GT lace race-looking sealed mech hub. A few months back, I decided to clean up the bike and replace some of the worn out and mismatched parts and upgrade them a bit with some modern parts. New Wheels with sealed hubs and SE double wall rims. New GT repop cranks, with modern Profile American 19mm BB. GT Cheat code seat. I have the original seat and seatpost which is cut to like 6 inches, but Ill be keeping the cheatcode seat. Maybe I'd swap for a launchpad or something else comfy thats a little older. I had a set of new GT Pool tires on this before, and the rear was just a bit too big for the frame. I had considered getting some LP5s since they are the closest to the original tire, but I have about 5 sets of great condition or NOS Powerlite retrotread tires and I just love how these things look on any bike. And GT owned Powerlite at the time, so it's still keeping it in the family.
