1986 GT Pro Performer

1985 frame built as a 1986 Pro Performer.

I started this project in Feb. 2017 when I found a badly spray-bombed bike on Craigslist. I could tell right away what was hiding under all that gray paint. (5th picture). After collecting all the parts and having the RAL 1023 paint mixed at the local auto parts store, I finally assembled everything this past August (2019). I built this bike as close as I could get to one that I had back in 1987 (the last picture). I would still love to find a pair of gray Peregrine Masters! The serial number had mostly been ground off (7th pic) but what remains is enough to be able to tell that it is a 1985 frame. Plus the bike had a chrome and blue decal on the headtube when I got it.

  • Details 1985 4130 frame. 1986 forks. 1994 handlebars and seat post. I had to paint the bars because the chrome was so bad. Unstamped GT style fork standers. I had gotten a pair of proper GT ones in Maui Blue from a member, but they just didn't look right. They are on another build. 1994 GT axle pegs. All the 94 parts came off of a donor GT Vertigo that was in very rough shape. 1986 SR MS 424 Stem with Pott's Mod. Brand new Tuff 2s (Planet BMX) with K55 tires (BMX Guru). A'me Rounds (Porkchop BMX). New re-pop Dia-compe MX 1000 brakes with locking levers (BMX Works). New no-name Gyro (Amazon). Re-pop Dominator seat (Porkchop BMX). 1997 Specialized crank. 1985 44 tooth Tracer chain wheel with a Pro-Neck disc. VP-300 peddles. Decals came from ChristianHetheMurray who is a member here. If you need GT decals, he is your guy.
