1986 Dyno Compe II

The one that started it all!

Most of us remember the green 1986 Dyno Compe II from the pages of Freestylin' Magazine and BMX Plus, or as restored by Matt S. here in the museum.  (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/dyno/10198 )

But those of us fortunate enough to actually get that bike remember it coming out of the box a little differently. (By then they were using the 1986 Performer bars and seat post which had the white and blue coin decal instead of the blue and red one. They also had white tires instead of black & no bar or frame pads.)

After doing a variety of odd jobs from the summer of `85 into the summer of `86, which included mowing grass, picking cherries, and recycling aluminum cans, I had saved the $350.00. Back then you could C.O.D. your bikes from the shops, so we called Rockville BMX and ordered the bike. After 3 weeks the UPS man arrived at my front door box in hand. At that moment it was the happiest day of my 14 years of life. My Dad put the Dyno together in our living room while the neighborhood kids tried to catch a peek through our house windows. So it's only fitting that this was one of my first restores, as posted here. I have also included a picture of my original Compe II. It is the one in the yard beside the hedges.

Update: Since the original posting I have updated a few detail parts to match the original as well like GT Seat Clamp, Dia-Compe Brake Pads, and 2169 Seat.
