Re: 1982 Vitus
I never got a chance to ride one of these, but I always thought they looked cool.
That Sprocket looks like a Shimano BioPace. I question the sanity of using one without some sort of a chain tensioner, but it's cool nonetheless.

Hello, you're right. It is a Shimano BioPace. Very strange system without the chain tensioner..... Didn't work well so we don't see it that often.
A vitus frame is glued together, not welded.

Re: 1982 Vitus
I think I know that bike. Is it a small frame. if So It was raced by an Alex Mcgigan who was from Morecam in Lancashire in the noorth West of England. In the 80's . He was my arch rival but loved Hutch Bikes. Infact the bike he had before that was a hutch mini. If it is the same bike it was stickered up with hutch stickers and had hutch forks " I think", but it definetly had the Hutch bear traps and the Hutch Pads. I wanted that bike so much. If it is the same bike it had 1 3/8 ths area rims on. Alex also had an older brother who was a lot bigger but I can't remember if he had a vitus as well. Where did the bike come from?
