1978 Patterson Long

1978 Patterson Long

Owned this since 1981, last ridden around 1986. Stored in parents basement 20+ years til now. Any help on history appreciated with this one.

If anyone knows production numbers or other interesting facts on these older pattersons, feel free to let me know. I got this in 81 from my step brother in trade for something, originally it had blue arayas, orange seat and I believe the decals were chrome backed. I added the white decals around 83/84 along with the white pad set. Currently it has: Cranks: Redline Flight 400 Pedals: Suntour Chain: Wal-mart Bars: GT BMX (standard, not pro) Grips: A'me Tri Brakes: Dia-Comp MX Rims: Araya 7x Hubs: Unknown Tires: Tioga Comp III (like new) Seat: Kashamax aero The serial number is on the bottom bracket, # 00256 (Very low number, why I think it's a 78 model)

Re: 1978 Patterson Long

If it is a 1978 it would be nickel plated and have the same decals as the Sentry, those are PR200 decals 1983 and up. The frame  and fork are 81-82 then changed in 1983 the Pr200,240 came out different design from this one. Nice bike i had a couple.

Agreed, the frame you have there is a 2nd generation '80-'82? Fork didn't come out until '82. The Patterson Sentry first appeared on the market in late '78. See attached for a Sentry. Notice the drop-outs. http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/patterson/92

+1.  The geometry and drop-outs on this one look virtually identical to my '82, which has a 04xxx serial number, and I've seen other (earlier) '82s with 02xxx and 03xxx serial numbers.  My guess is that this is that serial numbers probably restarted at 00001 (or something like that) when fabrication moved to Trackmaster for the 1982 model year frames, and that this was the #256 frame out of Trackmaster's production facility in late '81.
