No way man.
To match the age you need square taper.
If it's a rider, which appears to be the case that crank will flex way/way/way less and just feel better than square taper as well.

He never said it was a rider specifically, just that he's had it a long time. I know all about square taper. I was just mentioning based on the rest of the build big_smile

I agree, a set of vintage XTR cranks would be nice    wink

It just doesn't look like a carpet queen, so yeah I was/am assuming it's a rider.
I have no clue why someone would turn a vintage mtb into a single speed if it's not a rider      lollollol
That wouldn't make any sense to me at least.

Re: Vintage mountain bikes.Whos gottem??

It's a rider, the kind of bike that just puts a smile on your face riding around the neighborhood.  Simple, and very light.  Eventually I'll redo it, but for now it's not a priority.  Teds shop is about 20 minutes away.
And, yes, I agree on the cranks era wise , but Stonie is right about these being more stiff.

They were way ahead of their time, for sure. Rad cranks          big_smile

Wait until they stop making 42+ chainrings for MTB's, those Coda's will be worth bank      wink

Can't believe MTB's are coming with 36/38 for top ring only, why no high end??   hmm

Re: Vintage mountain bikes.Whos gottem??

I think a larger one can still be changed out but maybe only a few extra teeth not anything like XTRs 46t BITD.

I came across these too while packing up for my move…

Nice. Ive got a set of forks very close to that year up in my attic. I'll have to get picts of them to post. Always loved the Klein color schemes.

I would love to put the matching fork back on and finding some bars with original paint. Thinking of adding a small splash of anodized purple on this.

Re: Vintage mountain bikes.Whos gottem??

83/84 stumpy info.the only thing not original is the tires and tubes otherwise this is how they came from the bike shop. Notice the saturne wheels these were made by ukai for Specialized and the story is their was a law suit about the name saturne so the latter 85 models saturne is spelled  diferent on those wheels
