Profile SS Crank ???

Is there a difference between profile cranks for sale new now and Profile SS cranks? Just wondering since I see some listed as ss and others as racing cranks. Thanks.

Re: Profile SS Crank ???

the spindle size of standard profile cranks are 19mm,  profile ss cranks have a 7/8 spindle and the arms are thicker as are the pedal bosses

Correct, they are not 22mm; they are 7/8".  I had inquired about them a while back and this is what Profile said via Email:  "Our SS spindle is a true 7/8" (22.2mm) and is not compatible with other manufacturer's spindles or bearings".  Profile also said:  "It's not a good idea to try mounting our SS cranks (22.2mm) on a 22mm spindle. Bad Things will very likely happen the first time you apply a fair amount of torque. BAD THINGS. Please do NOT do this".

I'm not sure though if Profile ever had anything other than an American BB.  There wouldn't be enough room for bearings in a Euro BB and I've only seen 22mm, not 7/8", in Spanish bearings.

Re: Profile SS Crank ???

Their bearings (7/8") are hard, if not impossible to find.  I bought out the last 3 Dan's Comp had a while back.  At the time I had two sets of SS cranks, and since sold one.

The other one is riding high on my 24" DK General Lee.

The bearings aren't hard to come by.  They are a R14-2RS.  The cups would be hard to get I would think though.  The "regular" 3/4" ID bearings have a 1-5/8" OD while the 7/8" ones have a 1-7/8" OD.

Re: Profile SS Crank ???

That is what I meant to say- cups/bearings combo.

Re: Profile SS Crank ???

Hey guys.  I have a set of SS cranks and want to adapt them to my euro bb frame.  I have seen this bullseye bb, that is 7/8 and comes with a 48 spline 7/8 crank.  Im not sure if the spindle would fit my profile cranks because they say bullseye cranks only.  I might give it a shot cause my spindle is bent on my ss. heres the bb im talking about. http://cgi.ebay.com/Bullseye-Cranks-Eur … 01014r6462

Re: Profile SS Crank ???

I have lots of SS crank parts if needed, spindles, bearings, cups, hop up kits, pretty much the works but for american BB's only.

I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as there are no chainline issues.  I don't think it comes with a spindle though.  The spindle shown in the pictures looks like a Bullseye spindle that's normally welded to the drive side crank arm.  The only other way to get a 7/8" spindle in a euro BB is the pricey Bullseye adaptor shims from Desperado Cycles.

Re: Profile SS Crank ???

To add some data to this thread. The later Profile SS cranks use an actual 22mm spindle. This spindle uses metric bolts, where the 7/8" spindle uses SAE bolts with thicker washers under the head.

Re: Profile SS Crank ???

I bought an SS BB from Profile for my Gen 1 Bullseyes before I was able to score an OG Gen 1 Bullseye BB. Bullseye also used 7/8" or 22.2MM on their 2 piece cranks BITD.

They are not hard to find at all. Profile has the cups, bearings, and spacers readily available for sale on their website.
