how  do the welds look, stiff/flexy?

Re: Mongoose getting back in the game?

I'm by no means a metal or welding expert but it looks pretty clean top me. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet so no comment on that. I'm hoping to get it out this week or next weekend and see what it's about.

I'm 31n so racing is all new to me. My opinions may not be the best when it comes to judging this thing.

Re: Mongoose getting back in the game?

they're 250 on amazon. They had some promotion thing so after taxes and shipping plus a pair of RockBros pedals and it was 230 total. not bad in my book

Re: Mongoose getting back in the game?

Mongoose as fare as I now never stop making high end race and park /trail BMX bikes. But do to the Walmart deal / contract. They could not sell them in USA. Glad it looks like that deals done.

Re: Mongoose getting back in the game?

I cant get into the whole details yet, but I will be helping to rep Mongoose on the Race side of things. wink

I just got my 24" in today and built it up stock. 22.1 Lbs minus the reflectors and chainguard LOL!
Aluminum frame w Integrated Headset, Euro BB and internal routed Brake Cable.
Rims are Double Wall 6061 Aluminum ....32 Hole front and 36 Hole rear w Alloy hubs, 18t Freewheel and Arisum XLR8 24x1.75 tires.
Cranks are Tubular Cromo with a built in Sprocket Pin, Euro BB w sealed cartridge bearings, a stamped Steel 40t chainring and Plastic Pedals
48mm drop stem, 6.5" rise HiTen Steel Handle Bars, Sealed bearing Integrated Head Set and a HiTen Steel taper leg Fork
Light weight one piece alloy 27.2mm seatpost & seat combo. Seat angle is non adjustable.....(its really light weight and who needs to sit when they Race anyway?), quick release seatpost clamp.

I need to keep it Stock till after the BMX BBQ on Saturday where it will be in display. After that i will be upgrading it and doing a story on the weight savings as I go along

Top Tube 21.75
HT angle 73
St angle 71
Chainstay Lenght 398mm
Wheel Base 1004mm

Hopefully my Pro XXL 20" will be here soon

Re: Mongoose getting back in the game?

Mongoose is killing it in the ~$300 bike game! This looks to be a nice entry level bike with a frame deserving upgrades as needed, and I just saw a sub $300 Mongoose park/trail bike on Amazon with full cromo, mid sealed bb, sealed integrated headset, and double wall rims. Hopefully inexpensive enough to get curious kids off a scooter and onto a BMX.

I believe this is correct.  For awhile I had a 2012 Mongoose Thrive cruiser.  It had a full cro-mo frame, not sure about the bars and fork.  It was a really nice bike with good welds, and as stated above I don't believe that it was available in the U.S.

It wasn’t the contract that slowed Mongoose sales through the IBD, it was the IBD’s pulling back from a company that pushed so hard through the big box channel. There were still some shops moving high end stuff in the US though not many. I’m glad to see they’re trying to bridge the gap.

Would love to find my old Dirt Bike.  It was stolen in Pompano Beach, Florida in about 1996.  It's a '92 with the block graphics on a Green frame.  Pitchforks, Slam bars, GT (DK-style) stem and GT/Profile cranks.  Superlace hubs.  Would really love to put this back in my collection.
