Craigslist scam???

I've been selling a few bikes locally on Craiglist.  On several occasions I've gotten someone interested wanting to send money and arrange their own pickup.  And it has been from more than 1 buyer.  Has anyone ever run into a Craigslist response like this below?  Is it a scam??

Thanks for the response, Just to let you know that am okay with the
condition and price of the item .I am ready to make instant purchase.
I'll arrange for a local pick up as soon as you get the check cashed
and have your money in hand , I would have really love to come for the
viewing but due to my work frame that might not be possible and i
promise everything will go smoothly. Kindly get back to me with your
full name and address including your cell and land number so i can
make out payment .

Name to be on the check :
Address:
City:
State:
Zip Code:
Cell Contact #:
Last Asking Price

My mode of payment would be in Cashier/ Certified Check via USPS or
Fed Ex 1/2 days delivery. And as soon as this is provided, the payment
will be overnight to you and i will let you know when its mailed out.
And i hope we handle this in good faith while waiting to hear from
you. i will add an additional $45 so that you can hold it for me till
the check reach you.

Re: Craigslist scam???

Total scam, some dickhead tried the same crap on me when I was selling my old car.  by sending a cashiers check, your bank would put the money in your account right away, however i still takes them 3 to 5 business days to clear.  usually the scammmer will want the bike shipped within the next day or 2 after you cash in his bogus check, by the time your bank contacts you with the news that cashiers check was bogus, your bike is gone and your bank takes back they money from your account.  good move not falling for that crap.

Re: Craigslist scam???

There is a new scam that should also be aware of. Never accept a paypal payment for something you sell locally. This happened to me. The buyer takes your bike (or whatever you were selling) and then files a paypal claim saying it was an unauthorized transaction. Since you have no tracking number paypal sides with the buyer and gives them their money back. I had to get the police involved.

Scams are the reason I stick to good old hard core cash for local deals on Craigslist or anything else local. Make it so much easier just my 2 cents

Re: Craigslist scam???

Local=cash only, on a high dollar item, bring a friend, or witness!!
I've dropped off a couple motorcycles to people always go to a busy mall or place of business and my son keeps his phone with 911 ready to dial...
But your deal definitely sounds like a typical scam...

Re: Craigslist scam???

Definitely scam.
I don't know if it's a person or robot but it's not a 'real deal'. I recently had one sent after I posted the wife's Fitbit on CL for $35. Got the email similar to yours even going as far as to offer $100 to "compensate for my inconvenience"
Point of the matter, ignore that sh*t! lol

Re: Craigslist scam???

This scam is more common than legitimate buyers on Craigslist.

Im more curious if anyone has ever fallen for this and what the conversations were like.
