Suggestions for moving my collection

Hi Folks,

I'm moving later this month, and bringing my collection of 12 bikes with me. I wanted to see if anyone had any techniques they could share. I am only moving about 15 miles away, so I'm not disassembling/boxing. Rather, I'd prefer to do something along the lines of secure the bikes upside down in a cargo van or pickup truck. I would use packing material in between each bike to prevent rubbing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Re: Suggestions for moving my collection

Removing pedals really helps to pack them together nicely..
if not too far, flipping them over too bars and seat then stagger one each direction..Cheers

Re: Suggestions for moving my collection

As mentioned, remove the pedals, loosen the stem and turn the bars so that they're parallel with the frame.
Line them up side by side with material between them so they don't get scratched up. You're not going far, so you should be fine, as long as you don't drive over every pothole.

Won't be long before we're all gone.....

Plan an event during which you and your buddies ride them to your new place.  All around win -- unless the bikes are carpet queens, which I can understand.

Re: Suggestions for moving my collection

I move bikes all the time for events - 40 or so in a box van.  Remove the pedals, turn the bars 90 degrees and use moving blankets between them.  One facing left, next one right, next one left, etc.  You'll be fine.

Re: Suggestions for moving my collection

if you need to move all in a single trip or two -

remove the pedals and turn the stem/bars so they are much narrower (as several have said). drape each one with a blanket/sheet. file them in
your truck with cardboard separating these 'narrow ghost' from each other

B= bike , |= cardboard
