It sucks about bars . I didn't know myself but wondered why some came double knurled at bottom unpainted . When I compared sets that were with ones that were not . Holy fak! It was confirmed with C4 labs as well . Finding Japanese bars are tougher because redline sold coloured bars as parts of colour matching kits . Loose bars from 85 are very tough to find . Prices range 400.00 and up depending on condition . The main parts to look for when comparing Jap made bars length of bar is slightly shorter , it has slightly steeper dip in top cross bar, double knurled bottom ( should be on coloured bars ) . Some taiwans carried practice for a very short time but I've only ever seen bars in all chrome like this . Flip bars upside down lay them flat against each other. Japanese vs Taiwan you will see instant difference . You sold yellow 85s ouch!!! On safe side I'd say it will be extremely difficult to find that colour again.

I have recently noticed that some early '85 bars, possibly '84 have solid stem section knurling that is about 1/8" wider overall then the later Taiwan made bars. They were fully painted the early pink Radberry, and have the same bends and shorter dimensions of the Japanese made bars with the chrome double knurled stem section. I have also seen some like this in white. I wouldn't go on the knurling alone to identify the origin of certain forklifter bars, but as stated earlier, the dimensions seem to be consistently different from late to early manufacture.

Re: '84 & '85 Redline RL20II Knowledge

Great info . I know that forklifter number plates don't fit as nice on Japanese made bars than Taiwan. Japan bars seem too small so it's very tight fit to get plate on.

You seem to really know your stuff on the early RL20ll,s. You may have already viewed this, but if not could you give it a look and give me your opinion before I start a resto on it. Thanks brother.  http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.p … 64&p=1

Re: '84 & '85 Redline RL20II Knowledge

My very odd modified 85. Its being plated as we speak so Ill know soon enough how the cups were built. Removed the brazed on front pegs. They were kinda cool as they were threaded fork tubes.

That's a cool ad you don't see posted all the time. I've got little mechanical tidbit about 84 pegs. There is no way again to prove for sure but there seems to be a big difference in pegs that were stock on 84 RD serials that were shipped abroad . These were larger Allen head peg. Members on here that own 84s not bought in USA all have Allen head pegs. These were screwed into threaded nibs which I still had in my forks when I received them from OZ. the pegs are long gone but there are good examples of these pegs I do have photos ill post.

Here's another little treat for you guys that always ask how many are out there? The answer I don't F--king know but I've comprised a list of knowns here they are:

Caleb(sold ).  RD 06625.    OG white
Didi.              RD 06648.    OG white
Flaketown      RD 06685.    OG Teal
( Didi's frd).   RD 06722.     ---------
Tortuga.        RD 06727.     ----------
RD 06744.     White. ( Facebook Redline post member :Thorsten )
Redline 600.  RD 06761.     OG white
(?)pjbaz.       RD 06762.      ---------
(Unknown).   RD 06782.     OG white  it was rusted out
4130Bigr.      RD 06803.     OG Teal
RL Paulie.      RD 06817.     OG white
Subwax.        RD 06821.     Refinished radberry SOLD
Knallkopp.     RD 06824.     ---------
Unclevian.     RD 06826.     OG white
Fanofbmx.     RD 06846.     ( chrome ) paint gone
Shiznitme.     RD 06847.    OG Teal
Lalo-Barrera. RD 06878.     --------
Yarl--me.      RD 06882.     ---------
Spector007.  RD 06897.     --------- radberry OG
551slander.   RD 06933.    --------- ( unconfirmed )
Maltido6969  RD 06960      OG radberry ( now yellow )

There is one major mystery on one of the full paint job teal 84s. Instead of RD serial it's RE .
# RE003514 to my knowledge not another one exists in full original paint FF with an actual 1985 serial.

This is best list I have to date. I'm sure there are others out there. Not all of these are built. Some are not capable of being built its just a list of frames I have seen picture IDs of or read about in forums. Not all of these have correct forks.

I own RE003514. I recently acquired it from a guy in Australia. It's the closest I'm getting to a 84 at this stage

Thanks Dirty. Ya who ever built them into the frame back in the day knew their stuff. I stripped the frame for chrome and powder and this is what I found. The cups were machined out then filled with brass then milled out again. I liked them so much I decided to keep them on it when I had it chromed and powdered.

Re: '84 & '85 Redline RL20II Knowledge

What year is that Stomper? Being chrome would make it a 86 but the fork bosses look brazed in. Maybe it was plated at some point?

Re: '84 & '85 Redline RL20II Knowledge

Shiznitme How strange...Straight drops and brazed bosses though which regularly would automatically call out a 84-85. Serial looks to be cut off by the pic though RD would point to 84. Weird being chrome for sure.
