Awesome night!

My son, novice 12yr old, won his first main last night! Now that was cool! All the training paid off.....2 months ago he started with zero track experience and having no real techniques down besides pedaling a bike and staying upright......hoping my 4 yr old follows in his foot steps!! Loving the BMX scene/community!!!

That's awesome!  Sounds like everyone is having a good time. Now get the wife on a bike!  I couldn't, but some do.

Re: Awesome night!

So we went to a state qualifier yesterday and he placed 3rd in his 12 novice, pretty cool to see all those riders! I'm not exactly sure how it all works but I was told he needs to make to 4 state qualifier mains to be ranked in state?

He needs to race four qualifiers, doesn't matter if he makes the main. He can get four bonus points, one per race for four local races, after eight local races. His best four qualifiers will be counted. He has to race the Final to get a number plate. Only the top half of the qualified riders get a plate. this is how USABMX does it in FLA.

Remember only the top half get a plate and his points will be with the intermediates.

Re: Awesome night!

half a snickers, one gatorade and two waters later I managed to ride for the better part of the two hour practice tonight........and so, with my tight lower back and all, I started to feel some talent creep back in, not alot mind you, but some........ I could tell a difference.......got a couple of really decent gates as well......not with the fastest group of course but I was in the pack! Mainly worked gates and first straight; even started kicking out the rear a bit hear and there.........just bada$$ man!!

No date on the first race. My only timeline which really isn't a timeline is I want to be confident in my bike handling skills before I race in an effort to minimize a fall.

moregrip, please keep this in mind. The obstacles will feel different at higher speeds.

And with other riders wanting your line as well!! I'm completely with you on the wanting to feel comfortable/not wanting to fall vibe, though I guess the latter is inevitable - that's why we're investing in all the protection, right. Someone recently said to me that the best way to practice racing is to race, and I think there's a lot to be said for that. To that end, I'm aiming for an April race debut! smile OMG that's soon!! yikes

Dude! lmao! You have no idea how perfectly timed these words were. So the night before last I rode for the full 2 hour practice(first time), was pretty sore yesterday but decided to go to my beginners clinic anyway......first time off the gate and around the track my body was just tired.....probably should have taken the night off.....but then there was this kid next to me and then he kept lining up next to me.........so of course I had to beat him off the gate.............which progressed into to beating him down the first straight........which then progressed into missing a pedal in the triple leading into the first turn...........so after a little pucker factor I managed to straighten her out and stay upright, but it was not looking pretty there for a second......took it easy after that and watched my sons clinic for the rest of the night.
