Cook bros frame, fork, and stem package deal

Here is a cook bros. frame, fork, stem, and headset package.  I bought this bike on ebay last week as a complete bike.  I thought I could use this stem on my Cook cruiser, not realizing that it needs the extra long fork.  Anyway, since I can't use it I thought I'd see if anyone else has a use for it.  I'm looking for $1800 shipped in the continental US.  Buyers outside of the US will need to add another $100 for shipping.

Let's start with the bad.  This stem looks like it was cut with a grinder or something.  The base on it is fine, but you can see on the tops where it bolts on it has some metal missing and has been ground off.  I hope it was a good wreck and not because the previous owner was a total idiot.  But the kid was obviously a dork as he had a kickstand on this very cool bike and of course it was bolted on too tight and bent and dinged up the bottom of the frame where it was bolted on.  But the frame itself looks really clean and has nice drop outs.  Although it is really dirty and looks like whoever rode it last was riding in mud puddles.  The fork is rusted as you can see in the photos.  I haven't tried to clean it.  I would think most of the rust would probably come out in an citric or OA bath.  The stickers are all scratched to hell and the head tube sticker is missing.

So, with all that said, you're probably wondering why I'm asking an insane amount for this frame?  Well, the stem is kind of rare and I'm trying to get out what I've got into it.  Oh, and I should also mention, I'm going to try and pop the BB cups out of the frame.  I've been wrenching on bikes all weekend and just didn't want to get any more grease on shirt.  If I don't get them out (I did try already and they seem to be in there pretty well) I will include the bearing and BB that fits these cups.  The previous owner was running one piece cranks and the bearings are sealed and spin really well.  Again, I'm only going to include them if I cant get those damn cups out of there.

Any questions or you just want to buy it, call dibs and leave some comments in this thread.

Re: Cook bros frame, fork, and stem package deal

I'm going to try and get some better pictures posted up between basketball games.  I'm watching the games on my computer and photobucket always freezes up my computer, so it probably won't be until after the Wichita State game and before the KU game starts.  So give me a minute to get them posted.  cool

Re: Cook bros frame, fork, and stem package deal

I'm open to trades or partial trades.  I could use some cruiser 24 wheels, cruiser bars, cook hubs or slant stem, titron pedals or titron cages.  Sorry for the lousy pictures, I blame my camera, but I think I'm just a poor photographer and don't know how to use the settings on a digital camera.

How much longer steer tube is needed to run that uni clamp on a cruiser

Edit- Ok just looked at some bikes in the museum, looks like you need 2 to 3 inches longer steer tube

Re: Cook bros frame, fork, and stem package deal

There is about two inches on the steer tube that is not threaded.  The fork only has the top of the steer tube threaded to hold down the stem and bearings.  It's very much like a modern thread less stem and fork, way ahead of it's time coming out in like 80-81.

I'm the worst picture taker on the museum?  That's hilarious, but probably true.  I'll repost this with some different pictures.  lol
