Nor-Cal BMX early 70's

Here it is Fathers day, and I was reading through a few threads and stumbled on the old Harrigan modified Stingray.
http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=33158
What's funny here is that in this thread he mentions a guy named Mike Rush. I remember Mike, and the last time I saw him he was a roadie for Kiss. he came out into the audience and moved me from the cheap seats to the front row about 1990.
We all grew up in Pleasanton, and got together in the summers and shared the secrets. Dave Gain from Panda fame was another in P-town at the time.
Here's a couple pic's to share with you. The race picture was a Schwinn Varsity front welded to an AA rear, and I believe the other was just an AA frame.

When one thinks about tracks at the time.... The all down hill at Merritt College in Oakland was the most famous. They moved its location because to many kids were getting hurt. You pedaled at the start and it was using the brake from there on. Surgical tube was the gate at the start to. We all were on Stingrays at that time. Custom frames were right around the corner.

Scott Hansen hipped me to this topic so I though I'd add some Merritt College memories.......

This might be around 76. Jump before the last turn(right) before the finish line.

Might be the same jump contest going for distance. I was a popular photo subject that day. Friendly Fred at the mic.

Danny Oakley in the lead, I'm just coming off the jump in 5th.

The jump after the berm. It doesn't look like I'm getting much air but check to the shadow to the right, it tells the tale. I landed past those cross ruts.

More messin' around after the races @ Merritt. My cousin Glen shot pics that day.

Same messin'.

The back of this pic says this was at the last race @ Merritt College. After this it became a parking lot.

One of my favorite pictures that I have from my not so great racing days. It actually looks like I'm going fast. Big Berm @ Merritt 1976

Re: Nor-Cal BMX early 70's

The Merritt college pictures bring back alot of memories. However, this one is the very same jump as my picture in the first post. I spent alot of time up in these hills, and still commute right past where the house's have taken the jumps place.
I spent some time down in the creek too. It was West of the bridge where Hopyard & Division came together. We were very lucky to have grown up in Pleasanton in the 70's.

Re: Nor-Cal BMX early 70's

TTT, I'm wearing a shirt today that says Troy's Bikes Oakland, CA and has a Schwinn Stingray BMX with A&A bars from the early 70's. Anyone know anything about this?
