That ad is dope!  Didn't know about the cruiser bars.  I'd wager they are among the most valuable mid school parts out there, if they actually exist.

The only person I know that has og ones is Trevor.

You are correct, for some reason I thought Rob had a set. I just text him.. wanted to make sure I was giving out the correct information. So.. the probability ever getting a set is slim, therefore the value of Trevor's bars just went through the roof.

hmm I wanted to see more of them out there. I've been collecting Auburns for a few years now and have ever only came across the one set. Bought in frame/fork/bars combination.

But anyways, let's learn more about these amazing bikes.

Since GT was making Auburns and I had a long relationship with CEO Richard Long (Plus, we never had enough money to do the things I wanted/needed to do), it made sense to realize my ideas, dreams, etc. working with Richard and the GT Team as Marketing Director. Guys,

Here is some more fun history on evolution of Auburn jersey, pants that I still have.

Mr. Huffman,

Thank you again for answering  my questions. I remember as a kid reading about you and Bob and the Auburn Project. I knew instantly I wanted the bike when I laid eyes on it. I was going to be the coolest kid in town riding "to me" a futuristic bike. Thanks again for everything!!

Damn, Todd.  That's awesome that you've kept all those for so many years.  I remember seeing the sneak peek of that proto in BMXA when it was raw.  So cool.  I was disappointed that GT shitcanned the mix & match frame measurements idea.  I really liked that idea.  Back end too long?  Get a shorter one!  No worries!

Re: Auburn BMX Frame Evolution/ "Holy Grail" Frames

Thanks Todd for sharing this info.  I remember TC coming through my town on the first Summer Tour and the next week I went and ordered a frame and fork.  I can't remember the details but the bike shop said they could get me a limited edition f&f that was black frame and gold/brass rear and fork.  My dad went with the limited edition f&f which was way cool of him.  So can you provide any info related to the gold/brass option like qty made, what the plating was and the reason behind the color choice?  Thanks again!

Gang,

Happy New Year. I know there is a separate Auburn thread here but thought more of you would get a kick out of these pics. I dug these out a while back and thought I'd share. Sorry they are dirty but know one has really seen these for almost 30 years.

1) First ever Auburn prototype frame..built in Taiwan sometime in 1986/1987 This bike was put together and raced by Rod "Bronco" Beckering at Murray World Cup in Irvine, CA in 1986 or 87. Look how "cobby" it is...weighs a tone. Even hand made stickers by Bob Morales on it.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … tv4rdt.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … ouzyoy.jpg

2) First USA made prototype by GT Bicycles-Gary Turner - Gary made this frame based on above with hand-made stays, tabs, etc. before production models were made. I believe Danny "The Missle" Millwee actually raced this.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … tpgxjz.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … kd4cpb.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … pagexh.jpg

3) These are Todd Corbitt's and Danny Millwee's "Factory Bikes" for I believe 1988...These were hand-painted by Mountaingoat Mountain Bikes in Nor. Cal. We did TC's as sharks and palm trees since he was from Florida and Danny's as flames since he was "The Missle".

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … 9khsb5.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … x5vz6v.jpg

4) First, prototype "Works Link" - Unfortunately the whole, completed concept of "different rear-ends for different tracks/styles, etc. never materialized as planned with our merger with GT Bicycles in Aug/Sept of 1989 but here is the first sample of the aluminum "Works Link" rear triangle complete with sample decals on both sides.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … u3wo4s.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … klzmyc.jpg

5) And finally, the Auburn's that most people know. This the first model in 1989/1990 with GT designed graphics, Works Link and green color...After this I lost track of all the models, etc as years rolled on with my new job at GT.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … hzkwif.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j278/ … dnrx2r.jpg

Hope you all enjoyed this historical, technical walk down memory lane with me. Maybe you'll see some of these put back together someday.

Best and Happy New Year,

Todd Huffman

Thanks Todd. Here's a cool pic.  http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/107078/img_466658dd287e74.png

Nice.  As if the frame wasn't low profile enough, you added the ELF bars.  I'm really diggin' the GT XXL stem.
