1982 Kuwahara E.T.
1982 Kuwahara E.T.
The brother of E.T. #1
SOLD THE FRAME AND FORKS TO A MEMBER HERE
I call this one the little brother. It has some of the same components as #1, but a few lesser components. I never rode a Kuwahara groing up in the 70's and 80's, but I remember freaking out when I saw the picture of of the KE-1 when I was still riding. My 2 riding partners had a JMC and a Redline. I rode a gary turner. I wish I still had it. It must have been one of the first models. It had gary turner spelled out in black letters on the bottom tube. I hadn't ridden in a while until I picked up a 1999 diamondback viper at a thrift shop to mess around with. I really was not activley looking to buy or collect BMX bikes when I found these two Kuwahara's. Although these are only my second and third thrift store bikes, they have prompted me to look more. I probably have OCD when it comes to things like this, so I'll be looking as often as I can now. I can't imagine I'll find the mother lode or brother lode again though.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
but look at the BB pic,the welds look very cheap to me,its no CroMo.
the welds look like the Apollo ones (cheap steelframe),at your other ET i think they
look like "real" welds.what frame ID is under the BB???

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
Fantastic collection you have going already!
You have both models of the ET, the replica (this one) and the original (your #1 bike).
See Jamie's Kuwahara site for a breakdown on the parts differences.
The frame & forks should be the same on both (I believe ET frames were high tensile steel, not Cr-Mo like the KZ-1).
I agree the welds look odd but surely it must be a genuine frame, maybe an off-day for the welder? I noticed your other bike even has the original OGK grips.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
if i really know are the ET frames CroMo at the Front and only the back (Triangle,Dropouts,Chainstay) are HiTen.
Look at my Bikes i have an ET too,and i have Pics from the welds at the BB.
And only the cheap Apollo ET was made from 100% HiTen,but it doesnt have the double Gusset!!!!!

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
I don't own one myself so I'm only posting what I've read elsewhere, it's just something that interests me. Also there's no guarantee the specs lists didn't change from what I have read. Taken from the Everything Bicycles website:
ET (the "original" model?) - frame: high-ten tig & mig (rear end & bb), fork: super cr-mo
ET Special (the "replica" model?) - frame: high-ten tig & mig (rear end & bb), fork: super cr-mo
KET-1 (chrome plated looptail with double gusset, looks like an ET frame) - frame: front 3 main tubes cr-mo, fork: hi-ten/cr-mo
Odd that they may have downgraded the fork materials for the KET-1 if it does have higher quality frame materials.
Whether by "high-ten tig & mig (rear end & bb)" they mean only the rear end was hi-ten, or they mean only the rear hi-ten end was mig welded I don't know.
I've read magazine tests where they do not mention any cr-mo in the frame, only hi-ten (which they did to cut costs). The KET-1 (which does look just like an ET) has a cr-mo front triangle, and the KZ-1 is all cr-mo.
Edit>> I can't find this KET-1 referenced elsewhere, was it the same as a KYZ?

Hello-
Just saw the comments on my bike. I will check the serial numbers and post later as I am unable to do so right now. Here are some more pics of this one.

Re: 1982 Kuwahara E.T.
All the ET looptail frames were Hightensile Steel only, no exception.
The forks were cromo but no part of the frame ever was.
That never changed through there model life.
The Apollo ET's were 100% junk no mater which way you look at them.
