Re: ONLY FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE CROSSED OVER TO THE DARK SIDE!!!

no photoshop.
it looks even better in person. rides well.
'it's because no one cares"- i proposed that as a possibility, as to rational behind everyone stroking each other about their cookie cutter bikes, and bragging about frosting and sprinkles.
"you can do that with bikes from the 80s"- ok,. so do it. 5 bikes from 5 companies, stack em up! prove it.
ya'll got me ALL wrong. it's not new school i am hating on. 100% wrong. it is like,. 2009-12 is not new school anymore. this thread is proof. you can't hate on a 2003 Haro, and then say you love new school. der! look at these frames! i am actually hoping that this era or decade we are in becomes the Dark Side era. these aren't new school bikes. they are new. but not new school. they are the dark side. Dark School. Sith School.
this is my last entry on this thread. i'm sure someone will buy cupcakes.

BMX bikes are a tool for a sport, this is like saying all new skateboards are crap because they're actually shaped to be functional now instead of having huge fishtails like the 80's, or that basketballs are boring now because they're all just a standard size, or that pants are all boring now because they don't have huge bell bottoms. Evolution removes the useless aspects of things, like those dropouts, and those huge bearings, and those heavy tubing gauges. BMX is about what you can DO on a bike beyond what they look like, and the differences in NS bikes are subtle so that the TOOL still FUNCTIONS in a comparative manner with all of the other bikes. You label that hunk of hunk as a new school ride and stick it in a park for 2 minutes and the fact that the geometry blows and the material sucks will show and nobody will want to ride it. That's why the market changes, it IMPROVES for FUNCTION. So you want to stare at big, gawdy, useless tubing and strange, pointless, wasteful metal, which only encourages mechanical failures, that's cool, I found some "new school" rides just for you down at the local Wal-Mart, they look just like that GT turd:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mongoose-20-H … e/15711160
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mongoose-20-G … e/16913461
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mongoose-Reve … e/16913459
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mongoose-20-B … e/19582529
Looks like Mongoose is saving New School, one straight spoke at a time.
Oh your bike doesn't have a scratch on it?
Tell me again what the best parts are.

Re: ONLY FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE CROSSED OVER TO THE DARK SIDE!!!
More new school goodness for the little fellas. This is my little guy's Fit Bike Co. 16" with plenty of aftermarket pieces.

As far as new school looking all the same...well, I see where Nychus is coming from if he is primarily looking at some of the lesser hardcore brands like Stolen, etc... But a Sunday Third Wave looks nothing like a T-1 SFA or a Volume Mid-Ship. And V0lume3 has some very good points regarding why there are many similarities between new frames; companies know what works and what isn't necessary. I am a big fan of the late mid-school rides. They had a lot of personality, but I sure as heck couldn't ride one at the park like I do my new school bikes. My body/back would never let me at my age. In the end it's all the same...we're just dudes (young, mid, old) on bikes (new, mid, old).
Ken- heading out in 20 minutes...see you at Ceres ![]()

Re: ONLY FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE CROSSED OVER TO THE DARK SIDE!!!
Well I'm new to this site and now BMX sort of. I started another thread introducing myself. I'll continue here. I'm 32 from Madera CA. I haven't rode a bike since I was 15 maybe, cause I after I got my first car I just didn't have a need for it. I had the flourescent yellow VFR in 92. Two weeks ago out of the blue I told the wife I'm buying a bike, when everyone found out it was going to be a 20 inch and not a mountain bike they laughed including the guy I bought the used DYNO from 1 week ago. So bought this used one from a buddy to play around with then decide to go to my local bike shop, got to support the community know what I'm saying. I walked in and it was a shop of horror. Small sprockets, flat dull colors, very little chrome if any. These huge fat tires were on all the bikes, no more 1.75s wtf. No more crazy frames with tubes here and there (which I love). So I walked out after researching on line and finding the very informative site (BMXMUSEUM) and reading and getting recommendations from you guys (thanks) I took the step. I hear what Nychus is saying aside from the stickers they may be difficult to tell apart. One thing for sure though Nychus is you can't knock something till you try it. Yesterday with a lot of help from no body the Rastafarian I test rode a fit. You can feel the difference instantly. The geometry is better, more ergonomic with better leverage. The welds alone got me off. If you like the the style of so called old school frames like the Thumper thats cool, I like em too. But there is no denying that 10-15 years later we're bound to find improvements. It's like old school hot-rods with all the chrome and carbs and even some fins compared to today's cars. Yea the lines are sexier on the old ones, and look nicer ( I like chrome) but fuel injection is nice, ABS is nice. They each have their strong points it's just which appeal to you. In short I found an excuse to own another bike and I took it.
I put this on lay a way yesterday. Thank you to everyone that has input on this site, positive or negative.

Re: ONLY FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE CROSSED OVER TO THE DARK SIDE!!!
I have not done any riding or tricks since I was a kid. Now my son saw some old photos of me doing bar rides, gut levers, back yards, and some other tricks, he wanted to know if I could still do them. I went and bought a cheap-o Walmart bike and started riding again. I'm not satisfied with that bike so I'm looking for something new to ride, and an old Trick Star, which I rode as a kid. I'm 42, 6'2" and 230lbs,

That video was the first few days back riding, I got up to doing the rides across the neighboring schools parking lot, but man that bike is a hunk. What's a new school bike with a specs close to an old Trick Star?
