And we have ways of making him let it go!

Re: A'Herns Schwinn - Green Sting
I had bought this some years ago from another collector here on the Museum and asked about it's origin as I remember seeing Green Araya hoops on a Tahoe cruiser that were real. I was told this was in a box of OS green anno parts he bought. I have looked very close and it does resemble the same green on the arayas-not something you'd see today. It's more of a Money/forest green-just beautiful. It doesn't appear to have been annoed stripped/polished and redone. If it was redone it was years ago and I would think that to be very odd as green was a hard anno color to come by many years ago. Still not positive on why/how it became green.

No, but wonder how it would work being a 2 bolt. I know a few BITD companies did do a limited run on green but still not sure IF this is part of that. Nick did you ever try a std. 2 bolt clamp on a STING? I think it may work but the 2 sides will not end up as close as they would on a std. size seat tube.

Contacted richard schwinn regarding the green frames. He has no recollection of them. Did not say he ever had one.

I've been trying to track down some info myself... I know a lot of people that collect Schwinn stuff so I put the word out to a couple associations I belong to and see if anyone has one or has seen one. I asked about the bike and any pictures. Does anyone have a number or estimate on how many were actually made?
Schwinning:
Based on what has been stated in this thread, I'd say there were definitely a minimum of three green Stings made:
Rick Schwinn - green Sting gift along with a case of Heineken
Bob Kamarek (sp) - green Sting with polished Campy hub and possbly green rims
Danny Bonaduce - green Sting, no details and not even his real name.
Possibly, there could be a few more out there, maybe even just back up frames for the team. From other informtion I found, John Lebak may have raced a green Sting too (did try to contact John via Facebook but have not received a reply back). Maybe Nick Crudele raced on one as well.
If I had to venute a guess based on the above information, I'd say at least six green Stings (includes both complete builds & just frames) existed at one time. These bikes were raced hard so some of these frames my have broken and were discarded or replaced with another color frame.
This is just guess at this point based on what I know. Please don't hold me to this as gospel truth. Hopefully, more information will surface as this thread moves along.
Nevets
Some more info I found on another BMX site:
This info came from a post from John Lebak. The red-headed kid's name might have been Rick Roto (RIP). John also mentioned Bob Komarek and Nick Crudele(RIP) also. Two additional A'Hern riders were mentioned. One kid, obviously a nick name, Frog (perfect for riding a green Sting) and another kid named Patrick. No last names, but potentially this could up the count of potential green Stings to six:
John Lebak
Bob Komarek
Nick Crudele
Frog
Patrick
Richard Scwhinn (should have been asked him if he remembered getting a case of Heineken instead of a green Sting)
No complete bikes, frames or pictures yet... but we trying!!

I have a NOS green anodized set of Team Schwinn cranks so I know for a fact that they do exist! Food for thought. I look forward to hearing your responses!

It would be cheaper the ship the clamp to me then it would to ship the crank set to you.

I know Green and Purple Scramblers frames only were options, but not as completes.
Also, not to be the doubting Thomas, but if these were NOS, wouldn't the spider be natural metal vs. anodized? Also, on the bottom crank upside photo, there look to be 3 wear marks/indentations under the 170- could this set have just been a used reanodized setup?
And the fonts on each arm are different.

Wanted- White Industries Freewhee 19T and 20T, Mongoose Stainless Steel bars for a Moosegoose, and Big Gulp bars- because I think they look goofy enough to cruise with!

I have thought the same myself and then wondered if I were to own a bike shop would schwinn take my green desire seriously enough to allow me to have a set of cranks to have anodized before the crank was pressed together? I assume they were just silver ones that the team had completely anodized but I am open to other ideas because I was not part of the team and just kind of happened upon these from a guy who didn't care much about them.

Same font and anodization coverage as the green set that I have in my possession. I may also be throwing the "NOS" term loosely... These have never been mounted but have been stored in a box under stuff and most likely not in the best of conditions, however they do not have any damage to the finish. ![]()

Re: A'Herns Schwinn - Green Sting
One set of TEAM SCHWINN lettering is "fatter" than the other. I had a set like this that I pieced together, same color, but from different production times.
Need to add, I am not saying you are incorrect, but just that I have doubts. The shelfwear I have seen on anodized crank arms shows anodization loss when there is a ding or scrape or scratch. On this set, I see three small dings with no anno loss, which means to me someone anodized over the dings.

Re: A'Herns Schwinn - Green Sting
I was always under the assumption that AHearns anodized them. The cranks were made by Suntour and Sugino. I doubt Schwinn got in touch with them in Japan and said, "Could you make us 5 pairs of Team Schwinn cranks in green. I could see a shop asking Schwinn to send them 5 or 10 frames in the emerald green that schwinn painted a few lines in 1980.
Still very neat and interesting.

Re: A'Herns Schwinn - Green Sting
From what I found in researching the green Stings, it seems they were painted green by Knight's truck painting on Plainfield in Lyons. Knights was near Ahern's so it seems like Scwhinn didn't have them painted. However, Nick had an interesting piece of dealerr info that showed a handwritten part number for a green frame in a delar parts catalog.
