Re: Old School, Mid School, New School??
In my opinion... as time goes, the schools change... for example ... if it`s from the 70`s .. i call that PRE-school ...lol to me as far as freestyle bikes. ... 80`s is old school cuz that was the era that free styling was born and raised. 90`s is mid and 00 up is new/modern day. however when it comes to bike design. I call the 90`s mid school because that was the decade when old and new met . Like the transition to threadless headsets and 14mm axles along w/ thread less 3 piece bottom brackets. I have an 88 redline RL20B and it`s definately Old school compared to my 99 haro Zippo. to me , if your bike is compatable w/ todays components, w/o adapters and modifications, it`s mid school or modern ...
Looking for:

Re: Old School, Mid School, New School??
i was born in old school time frame cant remember what year i owned my first red gt bmx (it wasnt heavy) but it didnt last very long i do remember that my second bike was pretty heavy so i assumed it must have been mid school....mid school was when bikes became thicker and stronger right? (i tried looking up the year of that heavy haro frame with the slightly longer then normal top tube but i cant find a look alike in the research or frame directory it had squared off shape top tup with like a bracket welded where the top and bottom tube are welded at the front of the frame, under the two.
The earth it did crack open on the day that i was born, and a thousand merry pranksters came dancing through the storm....

And how old do bikes/parts have to be before they can be called "vintage"... I thought vintage meant 25 years or older, but I could be wrong.

that is up for debate every time it comes up. I would also say it changes as time goes by. My time line is: Old school= '89 - back
Mid School= '90-2000
New School= 2001-
but again, every one will have different opinionsExactly the way I define it.
Me too.
Pretty much enjoying all aspects of this hobby. Buying, selling, trading, restoring, riding, wishing, and waiting.
