Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

3 pages of spokes vs. mags awesomeness! lol
Now I'm even more torn between the two! The mags
have a visual impact that can't be denied, and the spokes
have it on the performance, weight, and authenticity.
I might have to keep both and switch 'em out now and then.
Or do like Wayne said and just build another T/A. lol
Maybe an xl?

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

While the Pro Class do have a cool factor I have to say mags. It is a Skyway it should have mags on it. From the pics it is hard to tell so please forgive this question if they are, but are they OG metal hub mags? Because if they are newer ones with "kaps" to make them look like the metal hub tuffs I would say add a cool little touch of color and get some blue anodized caps. If not leave them OG.

I have to go with mags too.Ive done the whole pro class on a ta but i reckon the ta is the only race bike that screams skyway tuffs.Heres an example
These photos were taken back in 09 when i just got back into it,the parts have been totally upgraded since then lol

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

They are new Tuffs with flashcaps installed. Love the way they look.
As far as the Skyway T/A / Skyway Tuffs issue, I ran 7X rims on
my T/A BITD. The T/A was a race frame, and mags just weren't
raced with back then. I wound up running OGK mags eventually,
because I lost the racing bug and just thrashed it in the neighborhood.
In my opinion, mags have no place on a race bike (except graphites),
but they sure look cool.

Screw it. Sand it down paint it white. One pro class on the back, a mag on the front and some dbi stickers. You're good to go. big_smile

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

There were mags being run on race bikes back then, even just check out the old magazines. But not that many compared to spokes.

That said, my vote would be the Pro Class wheels! I'd probably still vote spokes if they weren't Pro Class, but since they are, that definitely tips the vote. They look great, nice wheels.

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

Thanks all for the responses. cool
I still don't know what to do. I think I'll
mount the rear spokes and ride it for a while
and see how I feel about them. The majority seem
to feel mags look better, but perform worse. Looks
vs. performance, but I don't race or ride hard....
AAAARGH!

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

Well, I voted spokes not only for performance (I think the performance difference is overstated, by the way), but for looks as well. The mags look good, but I think in this case the spokes look better.

In the end, what difference does this really make? You obviously already own both sets of wheels, the mags are cheap, so may as well just keep those too and swap them out whenever you feel like it. Problem solved.

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

So obviously the head says pro class and the heart says the white tuffs. What are you doing on this bike? Looks like it won't be taking any major beatings, right? Cruisin' stylin' and profilin'? Go with your heart! Tuffs it is. Bike does look hot either way! If you go with the pro class maybe blue seat? or black?

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

My thoughts exactly on the seat.
Endos, rock walks, light dirt, small jumps, nothing hardcore here.
The goal was to free up the mags for another build, and to make
the T/A more era and genre correct. Maybe I should just leave
it well enogh alone. Oops, just bought some pedals... lol

Re: OPINIONS WANTED: The age old question...

If you want mags on this, and want mags on another build too, just buy another set of mags. They're cheap. What, $75 new on sale? Cheapest wheels you can buy. Keep the Pro Class for a different build. Either way, you have a kick*** T/A, so it's WIN-WIN!
