Re: 2012 Philly Old School BMX BBQ 6/23 (Swap/BBQ/Show) and Ride 6/24 !
@ Estados, thanks....it means a lot that you came forward with this. I don't hold you to blame at all since he's a member and wouldve been welcome anyway even if you hadn't brought him.
This is just a lesson we've all learned and next time we all need to keep an eye on our stuff since we are in a public area.
He and one other member who I won't mention will NOT be welcome at any rides or events I host. I've had enough of drama since the BBQ and empty veiled "threats" and insults posted on here and the NYC ride thread over something the member created on his own over not winning a damn piece of plastic. Anyone wishing to discuss any of it is welcome to PM me or see me in person, I'm done with BS posts and I refuse to take up BBQ issues on someone else's event post..
I will NOT let any of this ruin the next BBQ!

Hey G.
Thanks for hosting the event. It was another awesome show and I sure did spend alot this year on bike parts compared to last year.
I brought a good friend of mine, Sonnyto the event. He liked the show and the bikes alot. He also bought alot of parts from C4.
On a bad note i also brought another guest to the event. This guest name is Mel, and was very excited to be at the event.
His member name on this site is dyno.
I met Mel after the New Jersey ride show when he was looking at all the parts and was asking how to join the group.
Sonny, I have know for more then 10 years and is a very very good friend of mine. Sonny does not steal, he has a good job and wants to get invovled with the bmx community. He has a couple of bikes of his own here on bmx museum.
Mel i just met him for a half and hour after the jersey ride was over. I dont know anything about Mel
I regret giving a ride to this new guest called Mel for the following reason. During the show my friend sonny told me that he witnessed Mel
stealing one of ultrahives tshirts, while ultrahive was talking with other people.
After reading your post G. i am having second thoughts that this person Mel could of taken more items.
I personally did not witness him take stuff, but i will never ever invite him or help him out in any way.
I got some pictures of this person Mel so other memebers can see who i am talking about.
He did tell my friend Sonny he will attend future bmx events. All i can say to other members is watch out for this guy.
Mel is not my friend, i brought this guy to the show as a show of friendship to a person who was very excited on bmx.
I never knew he would steal from ultrahive, i guess i learn my lesson not to trust anyone.
Here is the Pictures of Mel
his real name is Carmelo Mel Jundy Rivera

Glad that's all he got and I had some peeps watching my stuff. The way it was he could have done more damage. Glad I came back to this thread as I will adjust for next year.

Hey G.,
I just noticed that you had said there were some food items left and that people should have asked before deciding to take some.
I went to the tent after the show and noticed that there were a TON of hamburger and hotdog rolls.
I asked someone there (who didn't have a nametag, but was behind the grill) if I could grab a bunch to give the the local church
near my house for their food bank. I was told that I could because they would be "thrown out if not", so I did AND i gave them to the church when I got home.
I just didn't want to see them wasted.
Just letting you know.
PS: I like the thought of a Retro category, as well as maybe a Mini 20" category?

On the food issue - and I hope I wasn't part of the people you mean, but just in case and to set the record straight publicly -
I was also there right at the end and spoke with jpb71 who was insistent that I take stuff and was filling my arms with food to take home. I've still got some pickles and baked beans at home, in fact, and my stepsons were gnawing on pretzels for 3 days until they got too hard to eat. I'm sincerely sorry if anyone thought I was just grabbing stuff to grab stuff - I was told the same thing, that if someone didn't take it home it would go to waste. I was also told what stuff I could or could not take. For example, water was off limits, so I didn't touch it.
Do I owe you feedback? Please remind me via PM and I'll take care of it.

I also know that I had my two coolers that were filled with the leftover unprepared food. I had to remove the food so I could load up with water for everyone at the ride Sunday. Under the direction Of one of our great chefs I was offering the leftovers to anyone that wanted them. I hope my actions were not perceived as looting. I just felt we didn't want the food to go to waste.
Did you know we had a charities and donations area? I didn't!! Please check it out and help some people out!

People, its all over and we've all learned lessons for next time. I just want to try to think of the positives of it all since thats what it was meant to be. Some of the stuff since then has been a pain in my ass and I just want to move on
At this point, next year it will be a day of different bike games with awards and prizes for contestants, different classes for longest skid, bunny hop contests, bike limbo contests, kids bike games etc. That way I wont be accused of hosting the "Illuminati" of bike shows etc
I JUST WANNA HAVE FUN and hang out with friends, make new ones and RIDE!!!!

Re: 2012 Philly Old School BMX BBQ 6/23 (Swap/BBQ/Show) and Ride 6/24 !
Thanks for putting on the show & I hope it continues next year. This was my first show other than the rides I have gone in and I had a great time and so did my daughter (blonde girl riding the chrome/purple GT Vertigo & the pink Windstyler). From my involvement in running/judging car shows over the years, I thought it was pretty smooth and the volunteers made a huge help but with everything, there is room for improvement. If you remember a few months ago, I mentioned creating a retro/custom class. Also possibly a kids class.I saw quite a few kids cruising around on some cool bikes. My daughter had to place her full custom Windstyler into the stock pre87 freestyle class... Not a chance in hell for her. She was a good sport about it but still didn't undestand why the judges didn't look at her bike... I told her there really wasn't a class for it with all the modifications, that they were judging for era correct bikes. So, maybe with a class for it, she won't feel left out next year.
Thanks to the photographer for the awesome shots of her bike btw! ![]()

Re: 2012 Philly Old School BMX BBQ 6/23 (Swap/BBQ/Show) and Ride 6/24 !
If you guys didn't see, we're doing a Philly ride and checking out the concert and fireworks tomorrow
http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=435297
If anyone didn't get a shirt and needs one, I have XL, XXL and 3XL's left. I posted some in the Beta section or I can bring some for those doing the ride tomorrow. As soon as I sell off some of these, I'll reorder Med and Large's
After lots of thought, there will NOT be a show next year. I've always wanted the BBQ to be a fun positive event and the show takes up so much of the day no matter how we tried to do it. Next year there will be a ton of bike games for adults and kids with prizes and awards to hopefully get all involved. To me its what's BMX is about...taking it back to acting like we did as kids.
I will probably have a few "Best of BBQ" awards where we give each member one ballot (to avoid ballot stuffing by friends and family) and let everyones vote choose a few Bikes in different categories at the end of the day as a "show".
The main focus will be having fun, talking, riding and checking out everyones bikes for FUN

G, I'm sorry to hear about the show being cancelled for next year, but I can totally understand why you don't want to deal with it anymore. I still plan to be there next year and I'm sure it will be just as much fun without the show.
I wish I could make it up there for the ride tomorrow, but I'll be staying local and doing the usual thing with my Wife and Kid.
Oh and I'm still anxious to see those pics. ![]()

right there with you Jon! Throw a ramp in the mix and I will out faceplant ANYONE... (doesn't sound like much fun but the crowds love it!)
G, it's cool either way man... I never got back into bikes for a trophy or plaque... It's all about the bikes and the people that have them. I'm cool with just a show n shine bbq... No trophy's, no awards, just food, fun & some kickin rides.

That "Mel" dude was crazy annoying - asking me the stupidest questions when I was laying out my goods and propping up the display bikes. Do you have more, what's in the truck etc...
I kept responding sarcastic cuz it was really getting under my skin - and he'd quip back "just asking, just asking" and I had to keep responding "just answering, just answering"
He said he was from jersey city and asked if I would have him to my house to buy stuff - told him it dont work like that and that my house isn't a place of business, I don't do business there and he got all tweaked .....
To be honest, I see him again, you may have to ask me to leave the event.
When ya gave him a ride home, did he have a pair of wheels he had gone there with ? I'd say it's time for a neighborly visit.

I'm pretty sure he must have been the guy asking me questions about my parts as I was loading up the truck. I haven't really looked to see if everything I had with me is accounted for, so for all I know, he could have walked away with some of my stuff too. I wasn't paying much attention to him at all. I will be if I ever see him again though.
