Del's work is second to none, those dookie decals were repro'd from a frame of mine, one of it's previous owner traced the decals, he was gonna remove and scan them ![]()

Re: S&M hoarders unite
Am I the only one that thinks it sucks when you see a frame and you can't tell if the decals are genuine or reproduced? I understand that everyone wants to have decals for their frame, but there is a reason why most don't...It was the style to get a new frame and take the stickers off right when you got it!
I don't have a problem with S&M redoing stickers because it's their design and their right to do so. Personally, I will be more cautious in the future when buying frames since certain decal sets have been reproduced. A prime example would be the maroon dirt bike with cholo decals on it that popped up in the f/s section a week or so ago. A few years ago I wouldn't have questioned that the frame had original finish and decals, but since S&M reproduced the cholo decals, I was hesitant to pull the trigger. Whereas, if it was a few years ago I would have snapped it up in seconds...
I don't think I'm the only one that feels this way, but I'm also honest about what I have and what I sell. I can't say that for everyone. Over the years that I have been a member here I have had several people PM me about giving them measurements or scans of decals and I personally wouldn't do it.
And is it just me or does every one of the bikes that gets posted from the other side of the pond completely mint with a full set of decals? I know this post is going to start some poop but hey, it's just my .02 so don't get too offended! ![]()

I sort of agree. The re-popping takes away from the uniqueness of a bike with OG decals. I understand og will always be og...but with the quality of re-pops now, you cannot tell.
That said, I have bought some of S&M's re-pop sets.
Everything I own is for sale. Pm any interest.

That's why I'm glad I got my Holmes when I did. Since I'm not really interested in buying anything else besides maybe an early Challenger w/990s I don't have to worry about decals being original or not. I do want some older style decals for my 24" Dirt Bike, but that's it.

Re: S&M hoarders unite
I'm not saying it's wrong to run repops, but a lot of people aren't upfront with the finish and use of repops on their builds...It's like they want to pass off their builds as 100% og when it clearly isn't. Sellers do the same thing. When you are selling a vintage part it should be a rule for you to state to the best of your knowledge if the stickers and/or paint is og or not...I couldn't tell you the amount of times I've had to ask a seller if it's og finish/decals...I'm not naive, I know that where there is money to be made there will be dishonest people who will try to pass things off for what they're not, but you can dream can't you?
I remember when Ryan Partridge first posted pics of his dookie dirt bike from back in the day. I thought it was bad ass...Now it seems like every dirt bike build has them and it's getting pretty old...That's another way repops can suck the life out of the hobby...

I would have liked for the new decals sets from S&M to be slightly different than the originals. Like changing the "Bicycles Made in USA" to "American Bicycle Company" under the shield. And Mike, speaking of original stickers, keep my in mind on that Holmes.

Would love to find an old Mad Dog, Holmes and Platform Dirt Bike. I'd like some 1st Gen Slams. I also need to find some stickers for an HAF and an early Challenger. Is anyone doing repops?

Re: S&M hoarders unite
yeah i hear ya. idk, i guess it just gets ridiculous when a frame with rare decals sells for 4 times as much as a frame with no decals. paying an extra 200 bucks for "OG" decals... no thanks. for me, i'd rather slap repops on it and have the same feeling. what does annoy me is when a 95 has 93 decals or a 97 with 94 decals. that just confuses everyone and really destroys the hobby for me. but to each his own ya know.

+1.....this whole original this and that stuff really gets old. The point is to build bikes any way you like them to look. There are no rules, its all about having fun. I see no reason why anyone should have a problem with repop stickers, after all, the're just stickers for gods sake. If a simple piece of clear plastic makes a difference as to the meaning of any bike, I would say get help for massive O.C.D. Even better, buy a gem mint/new old school bike frame worth $2000 or more, build it up using white gloves, drop another $2000 on parts new from the 80's still in the original box, then take it to the friggin track and ghost ride it out of the gate and ride it till the wheels fall off. New concept.........having fun riding instead of worrying about the stickers.
There is one thing however that kind of bothers me, that is when a bike is old with the wrong stickers to mislead a buyer. Now I know that many people will say that a buyer should be informed before buying....maybe so, maybe not.....IDK. But when S&M stickers end up on another brand frame for someone without experience, that is flat B.S. That goes fot any bike.........I have no problem having a custom built S&M Holmes style bike from S&M with a set of repop Holmes stickers. I may do that myself actually, but when repop stickers end up on a totally different brand frame, that sucks.

Re: S&M hoarders unite
I like to make my bikes era correct, so if there re-pops or OG, I really don't care if there printed in 1996 or 2012. But I would prefer them made by the original company and not off some ones ink jet printer. There is a huge difference between screen print and ink jet. That's why I wish S&M would do something like a limited production of certain decal set or something like that.

that looks great man.
the S&M bug bit me in 1996. I built my first Dirt Bike in 1997, built another in 2002, then built a 2005 Black Bike. the Black is about to get replaced by a S&M made SIIHBAP in t- minus 2 days.
the only pics I have of the first are sitting in a box somewhere. I still miss it. Stupid Fork/stem combo, GT box cranks, SuperPros, GT Dropnose seat.
the second DB:
Bully Nudie bars, Diamondback D Cell cranks and wheelset from a DB Option complete if anyone was curious.
how it was built, minus front 990 and downtube decal
later with Pitchfork, swapped the Ringworm tires for Elm Streets
various versions of the Black Bike:
how it was built. I wasn't a fan of the Black Bike decals, so I used some PBR's here and there.
sticker crazy
with Fit Highs, Animal pedals, Primo front wheel, Fly front/Animal rear tires, Fit S3 stem

upgraded to some no name 8"x28" bars, pedals painted black

upgraded to Fly Racing Mike Day bars
then through the magic of craigslist and birthday gifts this year I got Odyssey Directors, Trailmix pedals, Mike Aitken seat, Animal pivotal post, Primo Remix rear wheel
I have been waiting for the bmxboard SIIHBAP frame to be released for about a year, so most of my newer parts were purchased for the switch over to the new frame so I can keep the Black Bike built as a spare and the SIIHBAP my daily.
I bent my Mike Day bars, so I bought Grand Slam XLTs and DUO Corey Martinez grips a few weeks ago.
I got word that the SIIHBAPs would be shipped out last week, so I started to convert a few things. I raw'd a spare set of Profiles, threw them on with a 25 S&M Little Man in place of the Fit Lite sprocket I had. this will be the last picture of the Black Bike in it's close-to-original form. I have swapped all my spare parts onto it, and all my current stuff is sitting in a pile waiting for the new frame.
pics of the Black Bike will be up as soon as I get a front wheel, and decide what I want to do with the brake. I really want to have a front brake again, so it might be front only or both.
sorry that this turned into a Black Bike timeline...
