There are only two days during the MLB baseball season when both the Cubs and Sox play home games, and when the weather is right, it's a very special day. My friends, I am pleased to announce that the 2nd annual Crosstown Classic ride will take place on Saturday, August 11th. We will meet at Wrigley Field at 4:30pm, hopefully begin riding at about 5:00, and end at U.S. Cellular Field whenever we get there.

The majority of the riding will be on Chicago's scenic lakefront bike path, so it should be kid-friendly if you want to make it a family affair. We will make time to stop for a bite to eat, take pictures, and the like, but please keep in mind that the main purpose of this ride is to RIDE OUR BMX BIKES! In case you didn't make it last year, here's a taste of what you missed:

We had a blast! What could be better than world class friends riding world class bikes in a world class city? Last year's turnout was good, but we can do better this year. I will post public parking and transportation info a little later, but know that this ride should be accessible for everybody who wants to do it. So take off of work, schedule the baby sitter, and let the party people know that you'll have to make the next backyard barbecue, because this ride will be one for the books. Ya I will be thier ...if you were early last year I want to do that again it is a great way to start a ride.

Can't promise anything guys. You all know my work and kid are taken up much of my time. Will do every thing i can to make it.

Unless you plan on doing a fair amount of riding to get to Wrigley Field, you may want to plan on either taking the Red Line CTA L train to US Cell, driving and doing street parking somewhere near either stadium, or park in a lot at either stadium -- which can be expensive! You are allowed to bring your bike on the L, but there is a limit of two bikes per train car. Please consider that this is about a 9 mile ride, and that unless you plan on riding or taking the L back to Wrigley, you may want the ability to head back home directly from U.S. Cell. The ride should be over well before dark. I will post whatever helpful parking info I can in the very near future once I do some additional research, and please feel free to post any helpful info you may have. Thanks!

John, here's what my recon turned up last year:

There are lots at the Lincoln Park Zoo and North Ave Beach, but you'd have to get there REAL early to get a space. There are numerous other lots in the Loop, including some in the South Loop on Wabash. You may find parking on King Dr. in the Bronzeville area, which is just a few minutes from US Cellular. I'm also thinking that there will spaces either on or just off west Randolph (a bit west of a central location, but that far at all), and maybe in Greektown.

Which spots work best for you may depend on how far you'll ride to get to your transportation after the ride. Feel free to let me know if I can be of any further assistance, bud.
