Who makes a freewheel that is QUIET and quality?
Hello again!
As my "windfall" approaches, I continue to compile my wish list for my PK Ripper (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/se_racingcurrent/58022) build. I come to you all today to ask about freewheels.
I have done some digging on the subject, but it would seem that I am the only one who wants a quiet freewheel. While I am asking about it, what are some quality freewheels? I will likely be running a 16t, or a 13t (or both!). I am just looking for a quality freewheel that is not obnoxiously loud. That said, the quieter the better.
Opine away my friends!
Please bear with my ignorance in regards to BMX. I am learning on the fly thanks to you fine folks!

Re: Who makes a freewheel that is QUIET and quality?
Put some grease instead of oil in a nice used freewheel and that will quiet it down and you won't have to spend any money. You might have to buy a pin wrench to remove the freewheel dust cap but a shop may charge you $5 (or more) to remove it for you.
Wanted: NOS or Mint Phil Wood all alloy BMX hub set in black or polished.
GT Race Hubs in chrome or black.
2012 55cm Colnago Master X-Light frame. Any colour.

No need to look further. Quality hub with a white freewheel is better than most cassette wheels.

Re: Who makes a freewheel that is QUIET and quality?
Quiet and Quality don't usually go together with freewheels unfortunately. Luckily, a quality freewheel still usually isn't as loud as a quality cassette hub. In the $20-$30 range you have the ACS Crossfire, Excess, and GT Ratchet. Higher engagement than most freewheels, little better build quality, but still unsealed. Up in the $70-$80 range you have the White Industries freewheel, sealed, higher engagement, and great build quality.
I've been using the GT Ratchet on my stuff for a while now and love it. Here's a sound vid and vid showing engagement...

White Industries are far from being a quiet free wheel like the guy is asking for. I have one and they are loud. They are damn good free wheels too.

Quality wise, I would love a White Ind freewheel, but from my research, I mostly hear that they are one of the loudest of all freewheels:( Loud freewheels drive me nuts.

Re: Who makes a freewheel that is QUIET and quality?
I'm not sure but I think most mtn. bikes have quiet freewheels.
But I havent been on one in awhile.
Go to a shop and tell them what your looking for.
Good luck
Where the music stinks, and they water the drinks, at the nudie bar.
Where the girlies dance in their underpants, at the nudie bar.
Where you see their butt, and their trap stays shut, at the nudie bar.
Where you can’t touch a breast, but you can cave in a chest, at the nudie bar.
Where you look at a thigh, and blacken an eye, at the nudie bar.
Where a buck’s enough to see their stuff, at the nudie bar.
Where the breasts may be fake but man do they shake, at the nudie bar.
Where you swear like a sailor, and wish you could nail her, at the nudie bar.

The Shimano's and Suntour's are both as quiet as I've ever seen as far as old school ones are concerned. The new Shimano's are pretty quiet too.

shimano 333 no doubt..If tried restoring one before and used grease and it does made it super quiet but it doesnt seem to engage as good as if it was oil on there

You will find cassette quality components with a White Industries freewheel. Best in the Business. Id go so far as to say they are the "Chris Kings" of Freewheels.

I agree, I also run one on my daily rider. Its a 22t. Its loud but super smooth and has never given me trouble. I guess its all a give and take if you choose to run a "Freewheel cog" the loudness vs repairing and greasing the other options.........
