Yeah man I came across this vid the other day and JAW dropped. Those bikes are pretty cool looking! But I think this video will bring the wrong hype into the hobby.

Re: Stussy x W-LINE "How I Roll" Racer BMX Video

That was the most boring "BMX" video I have ever watched. Anyone can roll over a dirt mound or hop a one inch curb.

"Ride tough". Really? I don't know a damn thing about Stussy, so if they've been in the game for a long time and are known for quality bikes, this ad doesn't do them justice. Screams poser to me. Bunch of kids in full swag mode riding BMX bikes in a manner that says more, "I don't want my shirt to get dirty" than, "I like to dirt jump".

I still would really like to know if $1200 gets you a fully chromo bike.

Why are people hating on this company? 1200 bucks doesn't get you much these days. half the people that do serious riding spend anywhere from 1200-4500 for a dialled new school bmx.

and that video was awesome. cool

Re: Stussy x W-LINE "How I Roll" Racer BMX Video

I'm not hating the company, I'm hating the commercial. I'm picking up now that the bike isn't even full cromo. Why would you only run one pad if it's a serious bike? You can buy a pretty well-equipped bike - new, mid, or old school - for less than that. A bunch less.

Seems to me you pay for a name, and as such, an image. I don't think this bike is for "serious riders". It would be better equipped if that were the case.

That being said, I don't consider myself a "serious rider", and I don't think what you wear matters. The company makes clothing and bikes, I get it. But that bike is not worth $1200 just because it looks old school and has a brand name.

But, you know. It's your money.

Re: Stussy x W-LINE "How I Roll" Racer BMX Video

Haha, yeah, neat little dirt track. My petty words of haterism stem from how they advertised a BMX bike by not really trying to get any sick air or do any rad tricks or whatever.

Just another case of, "I saw something on the internet that I didn't care for, so of course I HAD to say something."

Cool bike. I wouldn't have said anything if it cost like $200 or something more realistic.

Stussy doesn't make money selling bikes. Stussy sells clothing and always has, they also sell a lifestyle. I agree giving this hobby the wrong attention is bad. As a previous post mentioned about hypebeasts, I agree to a point.

That bike isn't made for anything other than to look good. And with the it looks decent. This bike was made to look cool, and give stussy attention from promoting a bmx lifestyle. Is this wrong? Sort of. You can build that exact same bike from the ground up most like for cheaper if you tried, and probably add better components, but it wouldn't be special or have the stussy label.

The market that stussy markets to is interesting.... these people spend $2,000 on a pair of limited edition shoes, so a $1,200 bike is cheap for them. These same people can kill this hobby by driving prices waaaaaay up on parts.

Re: Stussy x W-LINE "How I Roll" Racer BMX Video

Total joke, the video and the bike. Its doing nothing more than selling a " lifestyle ". Starbucks did the same thing. They ran tap water through coffee beans, added some milk, free wi-fi and charged $5 for the $.35 product. Then they brought in hoards of college students with laptops and 20 something yuppies that dont have a dime to their name and try to pass themselves off as intellectuals. Its an easy escape for those who dont have the balls to stake a claim in the real world by actually judging themselves on what they do rather than what they think they do. This is no different, dress just right, ride a bike in the name of going green or being a rebel and everything else just works itself out. Even if you have to live at home till your 40.

$1200 can build a really nice bike, American made to boot with hard core rider parts as well. All it takes is some good price shopping and you own a $1500 to $1600 bike for $1200 and your a gamer. It happened in skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding and every other sport as well. Nothing new, just marketing a lifestyle............and attitude.

maybe lower end components and a lot of used stuff.  in some cases, a nice set of brand new hubs are roughly 500 bucks a pair. i.e. buy a S&M frame from their website and throw a bunch Profile Racing stuff on it. you'll be well above $1200.00 within two phone calls. just saying ..

I knew the wheels would be the point of criticism on it, but I wouldn't even come close to calling them total crap.  I chose them because as they are good affordable female axle complete wheels and I chose the WTF which needs female axle.

As for custom wheels, you can easily have a great set for $500.  Profile Minis and Odyssey Quadrant rims = less than $400, then ya just need spokes and nips, assembly is free at Dan's.

Honestly, if you can't build an amazing bike with all brand new stuff for less than $1500 something is wrong.  Sure, cost is going to go higher if you want to order a custom frame, etc.  But, going with great off the shelf stuff (even custom wheels) it's extremely easy to keep it sub $1500.  What I picked was with parts I like going through the Dan's site real quick - no price shopping, searching for sales, etc. (did use a great coupon code though big_smile)
