Re: New Zealand
Heya, keepin with the NZ theme here
I found this was quite interesting........ a Minimax 16 find with a supermax gusset, I have never seen one before (red frame)
So I have matching pairs now of these NZ BMX's
Healing HMX500 BMX's - Little brother 16" and Big brother 20"
and
Healing Supermax BMX's - Little brother 16" and Big brother 20"
I have plans to colour and build them in matching colours for both the HMX's and the Supermax's

Re: New Zealand
That is a good score Sperling, will be cool to see them finished. I have a Mini Max that is the same red but has the HMX gusset so they must have played around with colours and gussets.

Cheers, I agree, great finds....
The red minimax rear dropouts are mangled a wee bit as you can see but I will get them straight and nice again
Its great to find dint free, hardcore rust free, crack free frames still today, lovin it!
I also see they played around with front forks too, they are all 'Tange' but all different shaped dropouts
Managed to collect alot of Tange forks over the time, they come in a huge range and coded 1A, 1B - 1F and H, 2A, 2B and so on....
I think I have at least 12 different types / models of these tanges here
I would love to see actual documentation / pictures or catalogs of the tange forks and gear range made back then in the early 80's
The GT Aulburn has nice Tange 2A's on them, being blasted as we speak and the frame, Im looking forward to this GT built
when I get back from the powder shop next week ![]()

Re: New Zealand
Hey all.
I'm just wondering, I recently picked up a HMX-600 and it has a one piece crank and I thought they were all 3 piece. Anyone know what the deal is there, I assume they started making one pieces in the last few years of production? I also have a Supersport that I was hoping someone could ID for me (on the right obviously, sorry for the lousy picture). Ignore the bars and wheels on it, I just threw them on to test if I it was rideable.
I also have an '86 Phase 2 Mini. Once I have everything looking nice I'll add them all to the museum.
Thanks.

Re: New Zealand
Looking at that hmx 600 and unless its the photo it looks like someone has re painted it at some stage and would have put those cranks on it.Ive never known a 600 to ever come factory with 1 pce cranks. Also its hard to tell but the black tuffs dont look like metal flange ones?

Damn, nice collections sperlingaz and Dead.
Here's where I'm at with my old Pantha, before and after. Still got a bit to go and some parts to track down but I'm pretty happy with it, gonna submit it to the gallery when I've got the pics sorted I've had this bike over 25 years now! Gosh I must be old.

Yeah it's been re painted by the prev owner, even the cranks have been painted black. The bottom bracket is a ashtabula so it's definitely come out of the factory with one piece cranks. It's strange, the only other 600 I've seen with one piece cranks is this one:

And yeah the Tuffs are metal flanged.

Re: New Zealand
So no idea on the exact model? I'm not necessarily too fussed about how sort after a bike is, rather just if I like the look of it. I figure all these unwanted bikes will just be left to rust and they'll be lost forever, someones gotta take care of the outcasts.

Re: New Zealand
Hi All, I've just submitted a MK1 HMX-500, Admin reckon it is a 1982... I'm not sure this is correct.
Serial number 210489
Does anyone know how the dates relate to the serial numbers?

Re: New Zealand
Ummm, Yeah Mark, not sure on that still till this day, bloody healing, they could have made it simple to work out
similar to what Supersport did with serial numbers, adding years and months would have been nice....
Heres a crazy-az fix-it job on an old school NZ HMX600 Mark 1, could be a 500 honestly....
Im sure some of the nz crowd has seen this thing in the past....
landed in my hands and now swapped with a mate, hes now 'work in progress' to restore to original
Should be interesting to see how it comes up, some real ugly welds on it but hes getting there....

Re: New Zealand
Also finished that Auburn Racing CR20R by GT bikes in the 1990's
Coloured in Coca-Cola red and satin black powder, its compliments the tyres nicely, cheers mark
I have to make up some new decals, Auburn Racing and Tange Fork decals in red I think....
2-piece rigid frame with Tange 2A forks with Tange Headset, Raleigh Ladder bars, sugino 1-piece cranks with GT chainring, etc
Decided not to use the original Dyno pretzels bars that were on it in the end
Have updated the bike in museum if interested in the detail of the other components
Most of the parts are original to GT in the late 80's and 90's
or I have tried too
