good stuff! keep at it and you'll see progress. i'd say this to anyone who rides - think about getting a good helmet. they have come a long way from what they used to be. i got a tsg 'kraken' and it's great. us older bmx'ers can get away with it to a certain extent, with years of riding to fall back on. but no-one is invunerable. -lecture over.smile
your bike looks great. it's always fun setting up a new bike and getting it dialled in.

Re: New Female Flatlander

Get chrome rims, get Odyssey Evo 2's and run your front cable longer. Be sure to grease the front cable,so everything works together. Also be sure to take sandpaper to the pads to get the packaging agent off. With this done roll forward and squeeze the front brake. There's 3 polnts to master in your head and you'll pull the endo off all day long. Pick your speed then kick in all 3 at the same time, squeeze front brake, dive forward, take weight off of pedals as your diving forward. Keep doing that and B-4 u know it,you'll be dropping back and rolling out of them big_smile. Get away from ur front painted/powder coated rims! Good Luck.

Re: New Female Flatlander

You seem to already be way beyond me, haha. Back in the late 90's I was a newbie flatlander, and my bike got stolen before I could really get great at it. I could do "high" bunny hops (the highest in my group, anyway - I was the only one who could hop over a cinder block standing on it's end) and I could (still can, actually) ride no-handed with my feet on the top tube. The very night my bike was jacked, I swear I was on the very cusp of doing a bar endo and being able to ride out of it. I always fell over trying to set the rear wheel back down. lol

You're doing awesome, keep at it and don't let fear be an obstacle. You have to admit to yourself that at some point you're going to get hurt - maybe a little, maybe a lot - but until you come to terms with that, it'll just get in your way and hold you back. It's like jumping in a pool off the high dive - you have to accept that if you want to enjoy it, you're going to have to overcome the fear of the fall. wink

I really like this video because it's all slow motion.
There is nothing I can do on this, but with my slow eyes, it's nice to really see how things are done.

Re: New Female Flatlander

Yup. Videos are a godsend - kind of a cheat sheet for how to do stuff. When I was learning, youtube wasn't around yet. In fact most of the world was still on dial-up. I learned everything from hearsay and just trying it. First dozen bar endos I want over the bars, then learned to lean back despite the fear I'd yank the bike backwards. When I figured that part out, all I had to do was figure out how to set the back wheel down without putting my feet down. Still haven't got there yet!

Keep at it, and regardless of your gender, it always makes me smile to see people getting into flatland. As long as there are bikes, there will be people doing zany things on them. BMX isn't in danger of dying out. Those are the words of bored old-schoolers who just want to drum up conversation. I'll keep riding until the world ends or my limbs stop working - then I'll just get robot arms and keep riding.

Re: New Female Flatlander

Looks like you are making progress quickly! You can practice the endos against a curb.It will help to hold the front wheel while you learn the balancing spots. The clear pads are super grippy and the way to go.You just need to learn to feather the brake lever.Correctly dialed brakes should stop on a dime. Most people just get used to inadequate brakes and just pull harder or ride more cautiously.I like to know my parts are going to do their job and I can push a little harder.Keep up the great work!

Re: New Female Flatlander

Thanks guys for all the great words and videos. I am working hard at it. I found that when I am riding i feel better less stress after its easier for me to wind down. I am loving it. Taking tonight off though as much as I want to go out and ride I need to do my mommy duties and get my laundry put away along with cleaning my house! For tonight I will watch videos to see where I am messing up. Right now its pretty bad because I dream about riding my bike and cant wait to get off work to do just that.
