Re: I'm back! Rummage season is in full effect! Original survivor 1985

I guess when it comes down to telling people what you paid for a great find is to the discretion of the person who found it. If I plan on re-selling the item, then I try not to share too much info. I flip items all the time, but it's good to hear about some really good and CHEAP finds. It lets everyone know there is still a chance that any of us could stumble onto something so great.

We all kind of know what these bikes are "worth", so if I wanted to list this for sale for something like $400 that's my choice.  If I honestly had to add up all the time searching and all the gas money I have wasted driving around to rummage sales, that would justify the sale price I was asking for.

It's all part of luck. But, "luck" is when preperation meets opportunity. cool I search and search every day for a nice deal. Sometimes you find stuff, most of the time you don't.

Here is a quick pic of it in shinier condition lol. Just did a mild soap and water wash. I have some surface rusty bumps and will get the turtle wax chrome polish and rust remover and work it over. I did find a front reflector in my parts box to put on it. I took the grips off and cleaned all the wax-like goo off the bars. Also "chicag-o'd" the bars forward a little bit wink.

Quick question, I am noticing that most of the early Mach 1's came with only the rear brake setup.....  mine obviously has the front setup, but was this just an option that you could pay extra for?

Pretty sure the 85 Mach Ones all had front and rear DC brakes.

Ok - Yeah, looks like the original ad for the 1985 Mach One said it had both front and rear. It's odd that so many are missing the front brake in the museum.....

Alright guys, I'm ready to order some grips.

Are these the AME Rounds that I removed?

Re: I'm back! Rummage season is in full effect! Original survivor 1985

Finally got my grips on.

The sidewalls of the original GT tires are starting to get funky but decided to just fill them up and take it for a ride as-is. The setup of this bike is so much better than most I have ridden. It just feels right and rides smooth! I added the bash guard for protection.

Made a place for it in the garage cool.

So besides the grips, the bike is still original and a rider too! Makes you feel like a kid again.

Very Cool. But Why did you put the bash guard on A race bike? That just don't look right at all on the bike. Plus it is the wrong year bike for a bash guard. I Would for sure take that Bash Guard off ASAP Then the bike would be perfect.. cool

Re: I'm back! Rummage season is in full effect! Original survivor 1985

I'm not trying to be period correct with the bash guard and I know it is a race bike. The bash guard is for the protection on street when I am riding it around. You never know when you will come up short on a bunny hop over a curb and smash the sprocket, so it's peace of mind smile.

Absolutely fantastic! Love it! Iknow the first order of business growing up was to remove those sissy reflectors and second, if you had went over the bars, was remove the front brakes! Brings back memories of the unspeakable things we did to bikes I wish I had now! Envision a group of kids jumping a HUTCH Trickstar into the neighborhood pool...roll

Probably the same as yours in Oshkosh, WI wink. I should have said "curb or fallen tree".

Guys, don't make me take off the bash guard! tongue

We would have taken the reflectors off for sure on a bike like this too lol. I'm so glad the original owner didn't mess with it....... shoot, he barely rode the thing!

Re: I'm back! Rummage season is in full effect! Original survivor 1985

Took it down to the lake for a ride last night. It's fun when you find bikes complete and in rider condition because you can just ride it instead of searching for hours online for the parts you need! lol
