Hey wieght freaks,come inside.....

Im going to be starting on my Hawk, and im looking for some info. So tell me,what are some light rims, stems, forks, bars, etc?! Cost efficient of course.

Right now it has GT muscle forks, and they are heavier then the frame i think lol Its not going to be raced, just cruised, but its always nice to ride a feather big_smile

So,fill my head with info!

Thanks,
Dale

Re: Hey wieght freaks,come inside.....

Couple easy, relatively cheap ways to drop some weight...

1. Velo plugs (yellow ones) to shave a couple oz from the wheels.

2. Light weight tubes. Or if you want to go big... get the Eclipse tubes. Repairable and there is NOTHING lighter. Not even tubeless.

3. Few ti bolts here and there.

4. Grips. Most bmx grips are heavy. 5 or 6 oz. Slap on some Titec grips. 20 grams total with bar end.

5. If your just going to be cruising like you said, slap on some aluminum bars. Cheap and light.

6. Shop around for light tires. A lot of weight can be saved in the tires.

Re: Hey wieght freaks,come inside.....

Light, cost-effective, and only going to be cruised?  Call me crazy, but single wall rims might be a good idea.  Go with light tires, light, cut-down seatpost, and definitely a new fork.

Re: Hey wieght freaks,come inside.....

Thats ok.

Im looking into forks now. Maybe carbon. Someone mentioned fusion bars.....where can i find those?

Looking like black widow cranks, and still no idea on wheels.

Re: Hey wieght freaks,come inside.....

Carbon forks are overkill for a bike that won't be raced.  I don't know how they compare weight wise to aluminum forks, but I had some aluminum forks that were really light, ended up giving them to a friend.  I had just snapped a pair of chromoly forks and didnt want to mess with aluminums.  Does the Hawk have a 1" or 1 1/8" headtube?
