! Why is it so COMPLICATED?
im building my first wheel set here so bare with me!
I called Danscomp this morning and asked what size spokes i needed...they told me
for the Front-181mm
for the Back-180mm
with a - 4x pattern
and -16mm nipples
my question to you guys if you could please help me out is this
Can i run the 180mm on the front as well..that way i don't have to buy 2 different size spokes and i can get the 180mm ones in a pack of 100 count...
i don't think the 1mm will make a difference but i am not sure...any help please..
the wheels im doing are
GT High Flange Sealed 48h
to
Sun 4 Play Double Wall 48h
Thanks Riders cool

Re: ! Why is it so COMPLICATED?
Assuming they got the numbers right, 1mm shorter is not enough to cause a problem.

Looking for an early to mid 90's RObinson cruiser F/F.

Re: ! Why is it so COMPLICATED?
i would recommend using the correct size spokes if you can get them, if not then i would go with the closest size spoke.
why not lace a 3 cross its easier and just as strong plus its lighter because you will use a shorter spoke.

I dont have a scanner but if you have a fax number, I'll copy a few pages from a killer wheel building book I have and I'll fax you the copies. Just PM me a fax number if you're into it and I'll do this tomorrow for you.
Like others have mentioned, 1mm longer won't kill anything, especially if you're using double wall rims. Everytime I build wheels, I have bumped up my spoke length at least 1mm here and there due to the shop not having the proper size of spoke I needed and everything went just fine.
Myself, I always lace with a cross 3 beacuse I'm not a big dude doing 6' drops and cross 3 has worked for me just fine. I use only DT stainless spokes and nothing else, even on my old stuff, I still use DT stainless.

^^^
@ Owl's answer.
A couple of millimeters isn't going to make a noticeable difference.

I'll go up 1 mm in size but not down in size. A little long is better than too short.

Re: ! Why is it so COMPLICATED?
180 if anything sounds too short for sun 4 plays anyway? and the shorter nipples handle the angle better than the long 16mm ones do.
