Re: Are your bikes dialed?

Not dialed. My bikes make a definite sound when they hit the ground. Kind of a thud followed by a scraping noise as the metal meets the concrete. big_smile

Re: Are your bikes dialed?

It`s really sad to see everyones definition of "dialed" meaning that there bike doesn`t make any sound when they drop it. hmm Shouldn`t dialed mean that things like tire pressure, chainstay length, brakes, seat and handlebar positions are all adjusted for maximum performance for the type of riding your doing ??

i consider dialed all the final adjustments to make the bike rideable. brake cables, chain tension, tire pressure, truing the wheels ect... even a build that's just for looks will still have the bars and seat adjusted to look rideable. dialing in is the little crap.

i keep the 2 bikes i ride dialed in. my 1 spare bike is missing a chain. neutral

Re: Are your bikes dialed?

Dialed refers to proper positioning of parts, adjustments, tightness, and quietness! One persons bar position will not work for all. one persons tire psi will not work for all.

Re: Are your bikes dialed?

My Kink is pretty much right now, just put on new wheels, cranks, pedals, chain, and sprocket a couple weeks ago.  My headset makes noise even though it spins good, it's just old.  It bothers me now because that's all I hear from my bike.  Other than that it sounds like a basketball when I pick it up and drop it on its tires cool

that goes without saying. show me a dialed bike that sounds like junk.
my headset has to be adjusted perfect, so there's no slop at the front. my brakes have to lock up good. bars straight up and down for me. no frays on the brake cable. chain tension just right, wheel centred.

i used to love those 'how to make your bike faster for no money' articles. smile

Re: Are your bikes dialed?

Riding skateparks when I was younger turned me into a fanatic about tuning and dialing. I used to even wrap cables in foam so the wouldn't rattle against metal. I didn't wnat to hear anything but tires on concrete.

I'm still like that. If I could figure out how to get my road bike to not click when changing gears I would. I frequently freak out other riders because they don't hear me until I pass them.

Re: Are your bikes dialed?

I also ride my builds and YES, they are always dialed and ready to haul ass.  You never know when you have to get one your 20" and chase down some punk kid 1/3 your age who just jacked your kid's bmx from the 7'Eleven.  (true story - I'm was too fat to keep up, luckily people passing by helped me catch that little fukcer and I was able to recover my kid's bike) smile

If I have a little cable rattle here and there, that's fine.  Brakes MUST be spot on though.

Re: Are your bikes dialed?

This thread still seems to be stuck on the Dialed = no rattle thing hmm How about how your bikes are actually set up ?
For example :
my flatland bike my rear brake is set so that my rear brake lever fully compressed only allows the brake to drag slightly so I can control a manual without getting thrown over the bars, front brake set up to stop on a dime for tailwhips & pivot tricks, tire pressure at 105psi front/rear, chainstay set at 12.5" for an easy balance point on the rear wheel, toptube is 18.5 & rear hub modified to have the perfect amount of slack.

my street bike, brakes set to stop on a dime, front tire pressure @95 / rear @ 85, chainstay @ 13.0", top tube is 19", seat slammed so it`s out of the way for jumping & every bearing including the breaks on the bike is sealed bearing.

How is your bike set up just for you and why ???? smile
