Great job bro!  Im still riding as old as I am but age is just a number..  I still do tricks of all types and all I can say,  don't let your age stand in your way.  Many look at me and don't think Im as old as I am until I pull out my driver Lic.  Im 47 going on 48...   Keep on drop'n and like the one poster said about going in front first?  He's so right.  Its much easier.  Once you do it,  the rest gets easier.....

Thank you very much!  Keep on riding my friend.  cool

It's awesome that you are willing to do that. I'm 45, and have no desire to ever ride cement, or any quarter for that matter.
The BMX track, and dirt jumps I'm comfortable with, and have good access to, so I don't feel I need to do that. I sort of wish I did, but I can see to many things going wrong in my head, and that's a problem for me.

I do love to see the old guys willing to give it a go though. Props to you!

Thanks for the props brother.

I am starting BMX racing this year as well.  It's a big year for BMX!!!  cool

Re: At age 40 I finally dropped in!

Cool congrats man I know the first time can be scary, especially on concrete and a deep bowl that has a little vert. When you decide to ride in be cautious of the coping. It is hard to tell from this vid how far it sticks up but one of the injuries that took me the longest to heal from happened to me just a few years ago due to high coping. I was at the local indoor wooden park and riding with a bunch of young bucks in the deck. This particular park has coping that was really tall. I was all focused on getting a great pump is I dropped in so I go pedaling across the deck super aggressive, go to hop and the wood right by the coping under my front tire was a little stressed so it flexed down pretty far. I had already committed and didn't compensate for the extra height of the flexing deck and the coping. My front wheel locked in right between the coping and the wood and I went over my bike Miami hopper style. I tried to get off the bike but NOOOOOO as the luck of physics would have it, my stood bike straight up perfect and did not fall to the left or to the right. I was perched torso on my back wheel, in a perfect superman style miami hopper move with my legs folded over my head in a C shape.  I hung there for a second and then the bike went over. Again not to the left or right perfectly end over end mean I went over the top of the bike. Due to this there was no way I could catch the transition I had the height of the ramp (6 foot) plus the height of my bikes wheel base (a good 3 feet as it was standing on end) and fell straight to flat from around 9 feet up to the concrete floor. My wrists took all the hit. the worst part was as this is happening I hear a couple of the buck grunt as they are watching "grandpa" take it hard. My stupid left wrist didnt feel right for about 4 to 5 months. At first I thought I had broken it but I could move it so my guess it was just a bad sprain. Anyways be careful and have a good one.

Those young bucks can be brutal.  I am in good with the kids, but I am sure they would laugh if I bit it hard.  I am picturing your crash in my head and it sounds horrible.  I agree brother, we need to have fun and be careful!  I have lots of extra safety gear I may start to wear.  Thanks for the story and tips on being careful!

That'll happen.
Tuck your weight back more & you'll be good.
A half-crank more of speed would help too.
Stay padded up & keep it up.

Holy Crap!

When dropping in, you want to approach the coping at an angle just like you did, but when going that slow you need to turn in or go straight down the transition... -not on an angle or your front tire will wash-out just like it did and face plant.

Sounds weird but even though you fell,  that drop-in looked alot better than your first attempt.

Keep at it bro... its alot of practice.  smile

Re: At age 40 I finally dropped in!

ah that sucks, you didn't seem hurt though, did you go again and get it?  Those tiny little platforms call for a half crank and more of a bunny hop in though.

fully, if you had lent back it would have worked.  Good on you man for going for it.

I was trying to cleanly jump the large double at the track and the wind was stopping me, it's a bit more lippy than I am used too, but I am nervous of it a bit so trying to hit it at mach 10 as the speed is there, but not really the skill set anymore.  It was a windy day and I'd just cased it a half dozen times after clearing it easy first or second go, not too hard, just clipping it and washing off some speed.

Wind died and I overshot it, went over the bars and broke 2 ribs.  first real crash and things broke so easy.  That was in Feb and it's all in the past now and no longer scared and have jumped it racing even.

I manual it usually now though...... big_smile

Sweet... nice second attempt drop-in.  Before you know it, you'll be catching air on the quarter.

I hope you're wearing shin guards at least. big_smile
