cut handlebars restoration

here's a small project i did for a friend. these were cut sting bars that i added the missing 1.5" of chromoly on each end to. they are obviously not re-chromed, just polished for now.

Re: cut handlebars restoration

flawless work.
any step-by-step pics to post? is there a smaller pipe inside to align the new piece? or just aligned and welded? if so, how much gap is there for the weld, if any?

Re: cut handlebars restoration

i just beveled both ends, gapped @ 1/16", back-gassed and tigged them. there is still pleny of weld left even after the were ground smooth. if they were going on a bike that was gonna get ridden hard, i would have added a backing ring under the weld. i did do a 15 minute vibratory stress relief on them just 'because".

Re: cut handlebars restoration

on motorbikes, they put a slug on the inside, drill a few holes on either side and weld them. there is a guy on ozbmx sells bar extenders that screw in with a wedge.

Re: cut handlebars restoration

Very nice work. The Dynasty 350 is an awesome machine. Fantastic for aluminum.

Since I'm here, and you're here, doesn't that make it our time?
