Too old?

Hey all.

I'm just getting back into BMX fun. I recently bought a 99 Haro Group 1 al off these boards and have been setting it up to my liking. I used to live and ride in Canada. That wAs about 12 years ago. I used to ride dirt and a little street. I had a Haro group 1 al ( 1" threaded ) then moved onto a DK banshee that I tricked out. That was my last good bike.

So anyway, I went for a ride today just to get the feel of things. Boy do I suck. Am I too old for this? (30) I know I have to be careful now but man do I feel terribly out of shape. 1 hour of wheelies and attempts at manuals, some trial fakies and some bunny hopping has wore me out. At least I'm getting exercise tho.

I also figured out that I never bunny hopped correctly, despite being able to clear a recycle container. I pull and lift straight up I stead of front end first. Well I can't clear a container anymore but I'll keep working on it. I'd lo e to hit some mini dirt jumps but there's none in my area.

I guess I'm just rambling now, just wanted to say hi and get an idea of how many other older guys like me are out there.

Also what crazy guy came up with the new brake less thing, bmx has sure evolved since I took my eye off it.

30 isn't old, i'm 33 and most of these old bastards here have me beat by far.

also brakeless is nothing new. half the kids i grew up with BITD rode brakeless. not outta choice but outta a lack of working parts. the trusty foot in the back tire worked for us.

Re: Too old?

Too old at 30? Out of shape and out of practice maybe, but not too old. I'm gonna be 50 this year, so you still have at least 20 years...  lol

Re: Too old?

So by now it becomes obvious to me that right below: Posts: 1234, Bikes: 100, there needs to be age: 42.

30....pffft.  That was misleading.  Thought it was going to be some big cliff.  That's not until 40 lol

And right below: Museum Rules, there needs to be: Watch out for itsdug....he's a big bad Samoan wrestler dude.

Re: Too old?

43. Getting back into riding for the 4th time in my life, it's like an old drug. Found out I'm a little out of shape and definitely have to learn to be one with the bike again so I don't get jacked up.
I think Troy McMurray was one of the guys behind brakeless riding... something about skate boarders do it and it improved biking skills. I can agree with the skate board thing and I know it takes skill to do it but I don't think improves your skills. I would run inot Troy at the V in Aurora and he borrowed my tools on more than one occassion, could be he just got tired of working on his brakes and just decided to do without.
