Re: 1998 GT Performer

Polished the crap out of the forks and bars tonight, my fingers are killing me! They look great though. The forks have some pretty severe pit lines that I just could not get out no matter how hard I tried. They shine though. big_smile

I have a surprise idea for the forks that will make them look awesome!  tongue

Within the next couple days I will start the re-assembly of the bike and once I get a chain it will be ride-able. Still have to decide if I'm going to re use the sprocket that it came with, use the one pictured above ('96 Vertigo sprocket), or one of my Sugno 44t spider and chain wheel sets. hmm

Thank you very much.

It's the can on the far right. It's "Krylon X-Metals" purchased at Wal-Mart for around $5 a can.

Re: 1998 GT Performer

Your forks came out so good that I'm seriously considering doing my Robinson with a blue version of the same paint. GREAT job!

If you find a F/S or trade ad from me, ignore it. If you send me a PM and I don't reply right away, I'm not ignoring you - just busy at the moment.

Do I owe you feedback? Please remind me via PM and I'll take care of it.

Re: 1998 GT Performer

I have had really good luck using Krylon paint. It is worth the extra money. BITD when I use to wright Graffiti Krylon was the only paint I would use, works good on many different surfaces.

Krylon X-Metals actually makes a paint to apply to painted surfaces before using the X-Metal paint to give it the same look. I have never tried it (yet).

I have this same sprocket on my Divine, just in chrome and it doesn't have the "GT" logo etched into the face. On the opposite side, it has "Prowheel" stamped into the outer ring. Do you think it's the same? Or just a cheaper copy by Pacific Cycle?

Great build, by the way!! I've used similar stuff called DupliColor Metal Cast to make yellow foglights for cars and trucks. Lasts years and is really tough!!

Hey that's actually MY picture... hmm

My guess is that if it doesn't say "GT" on it then it's not a GT product.

I'm really considering doing the translucent red in this too... hmm

Of course I'd leave the GT logo chrome.

Re: 1998 GT Performer

Haha, I used it as an exmaple. Here's mine:

Just trying to figure out if it's worth cannibalizing for a better bike.
